UIM organised the National Seminar on “The art of Sustainable finance and trading in the stock market”

Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, organized a national seminar on “The Art of Sustainable Finance and Trading in Stock Market”, on 23 November 2022. The one-day seminar was addressed by well-renowned industry expert Mr Jitendra Shreshthi, Vice President, Reliance Securities Limited, Mumbai India. He has more than 17 years of corporate work experience, and also possesses a large number of reputed certifications. He has worked with highly reputed companies at the senior level like Edelweiss Financial Services, Religare Finvest Limited and Max New York Life Insurance Co. Ltd. He has chaired numerous technical sessions at National and International Conferences. Dr Tillotama Singh, HOD, UIM hosted the seminar for all Management students and welcomed the dignitaries and members of the faculty.

Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM, Uttaranchal University highlighted the investments and how investors can multiply their money within a short period. Prof. Suri addressed the students on trading in the stock market especially the use of technical analysis in picking stocks and tools of technical analysis and investment planning. He stated a very prominent quote “Investment is not a skill, it’s a habit.

Making money is one thing, but securing it for the long term is sustainability, said Professor Suri. Prof Suri addressed the students about the operation of financial markets, important environmental and climate change challenges affecting financial institutions, and current public and private finance structures and procedures for sustainability.

Mr Shreshthi delivered an effective and interactive session on this occasion of the seminar. The keynote speaker elucidated the volatility in the markets and the risks involved therein. He also spoke on an understanding of the timing of investments in the markets. Besides that, He enlightened students about the various investment options like equity, bond, mutual funds, insurance, government securities etc. He emphasized how to make money in stock markets and how markets work. He also explained how to open a Demat account and how to do trading in the stock markets. The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session. The seminar was very interactive and informative and attended by more than 400 Students from Management Department, Uttaranchal University. In the end, the Master of the Ceremony proposed a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries & students. The seminar was coordinated by Mr Farman Ali, Mr Anil Singh Chauhan, Ms Sonakshi Bhatia along with other Faculty Members of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University.

Law College Dehradun organized 2nd Intra College Quiz Competition

Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University under the aegis of the Legal Aid Centre organized the 2nd Intra College Quiz Competition on Constitutional Law from 22 – 24 November 2021 to enhance the students’ knowledge on the Constitution of India.

  It was conducted in two rounds:

  1. First-round (Written Round) on 22 November 2021.
  2. Second and the Final round on 24 November 2021.
  3. Valedictory Ceremony on 26 March 2022.

The first round of the quiz competition was a written round held on 22 November comprising 50 objective questions. A total of 118 teams participated, out of which 5 teams qualified for the final round.

The second round of the 2nd Intra-College Quiz Competition on Constitutional Law was held on 24 November 2021 in the Seminar Hall. This event was graced by Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Dean Law College Dehradun and Director of Legal Aid Center, deputy director of Legal Aid Center, Prof (Dr) Poonam Rawat, and Dr Vaibhav Uniyal. The quiz competition was witnessed by the participants, members of various societies, and the students of Law College Dehradun.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna and the introduction of our quiz mistress Ms Sherry Pant, who shed light on the schedule of the upcoming event, Mega Blood Donation Day, and wished them luck for the final day of the competition by encouraging them to take the competition in a positive spirit as an enhancement mechanism. The final round was divided into three categories, the first being the “High Five Round”, followed by the “Guess Who Round” and the game decider round i. e. the “Buzzer Round”. Each team had 10 seconds, 15 seconds, and 20 seconds to answer in the first, second, and third rounds respectively. The event was concluded by the Chairperson of the society Dr Vaibhav Uniyal with a vote of thanks.

The valedictory ceremony for the same was organized on 26 March 2022 along with the valedictory ceremonies that were conducted for the International Pride Month Article Writing Competition, and the Tech Fest Debate Competition organized by the Rotaract Club and Aarambh the Debating Society respectively.

The event’s chief guest was Executive Director, Student and IT Affairs, Prof (Dr) Abhishek Joshi. The whole event was witnessed by Pro Vice-Chancellor of Uttaranchal University & Dean Law College Dehradun Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Head of Department, Law College Dehradun. Prof (Dr) Poonam Rawat, the chairperson of the Legal Aid Centre Prof Abhiranjan Dixit.

 The session commenced with hosts Mr Utkarsh Mishra, Executive Member of Legal Aid Centre and Ms Ananya Gusain welcoming the esteemed guests and the audience followed by the lighting of the lamp and the University Kulgeet. The winners were felicitated by Dr Abhishek Joshi and Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna.

  • 1st position – Raushan Kumar Pathak and Kshitij Raj, TC 54 received a cash prize of Rs. 3100 and a trophy.

The event concluded with the Event Coordinator of the Quiz Competition, Mr Sudeep Chandra proposed the vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.

UIM organises an International Webinar on “Strategic Quality Management”

With an intent to bolster the growth of the Students and to familiarise them with the importance of Quality Management, Uttaranchal Institute of Management (UIM), Uttaranchal University, organised an online international webinar on the topic “Strategic Quality Management” on 21 November 2022. This program was an endeavour to deeply enrich the knowledge of all participants and provide them with learning insights on quality management with specific reference to the Service industry.

Prof (Dr) Macario G Gayeta, Graduate School Professor, Business Administration, Philippine Christian University, Philippines was present as the Keynote Speaker on the occasion while the Director of UIM, Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri was among the other distinguished guests.  Dr Suri addressed the gathering and welcomed the eminent keynote speaker of the day. He stated that Quality is important for all organisations including the service sector. He reiterated the benefit the students will acquire from the immense and versatile knowledge domain and experience of Prof Gayeta.

The Speaker Prof Gayeta imparted knowledge to the students and focused on various key points during the session which are as follows:

  • the importance of quality management in the globalized era today
  • Discussing the Philippines in particular, he spoke about the focus on the establishment of a Medium-term development plan for contribution to economic poverty alleviation, and infrastructure development and the shift towards environment-friendly tourism for enhanced sustainability.
  • how quality management plays a significant role in decisions being taken in the service industry.

At last vote of thanks to all the eminent resource persons, dignitaries, technical and supportive team and participants was proposed by Dr Tilottama Singh, HoD, Management highlighting the role of building resilient business models through SQM factors shared by the speaker. Around 100 participants attended the Webinar with full zeal and enthusiasm. The entire session was detailed and anchored by Dr Deepti Sharma, Associate Professor, UIM.

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences celebrates “National Pharmacy Week”

Workshop on Sophisticated Instruments Handling organised on National Pharmacy Week by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences

 Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University celebrated National Pharmacy Week on 18 and 19 November 2022. The Theme of this year is “Pharmacy of the World – India”.

 Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences conducted several activities starting with the inauguration of Two Day Workshop on Sophisticated Instruments on 18 November 2022. Mr. Praveen Chandra Joshi, Intas Pharmaceutical Ltd., Dehardun, Ms. Ashima Juyal, Division of R&I, Uttaranchal University, Mr Chetan S Division of R&I, Uttaranchal University were the Resource person for the training workshop. The objective of this training was to acquire knowledge related to sophisticated pharmaceutical equipment for undergraduate, postgraduate students, researchers and academicians.

The session was inaugurated with a lamp lighting ceremony and welcome address by convener Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean, UIPS stating the prominence of the National Pharmacy Weekend drawn attention to the Important role played by the pharmacy profession. Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University motivated the students by expressing the importance of the role and responsibilities being a pharmacist in assisting the patient and another medical professional in promoting the rational use of the drug. Key Note address is given by Mr Praveen Joshi, Intas Ltd. Dehradun and at the end of the inaugural session vote of thanks is given by Dr Amit Semwal, HoD, UIPS followed by Pharmacist Oath.

The candidates registered for workshops from different institutions were distributed in four batches and provided complete theoretical and practical knowledge on FTIR, UV-Spectrophotometer, HPLC, SEM, and XRD. Method development and validation parameters were explained during a training session on analytical instrument handling. Valuable information about the modernized FTIR, UV, HPLC components, pumps, column, and autosampler detectors is imparted. HPLC is applied to the separation and quantitation of components of a mixture of compounds. Wide coverage is given to fundamental concepts of laboratory operations so that students will find the training as a useful reference for day-to-day laboratory operations. Students are also made aware of the different pharmaceutical formulation development instruments. Participants have undergone the training session on rotary tablet compression machine, Dissolution and Disintegration apparatus, Brookfield Viscometer, Probe Sonicator and many more.

The students also participated in various cultural events like singing, dancing, drawing, sketching, and sports activity such as carom, and chess on the second day. More than fifty participants have participated in workshops from various institutes. The celebration ended on the second day with certificate distribution to the participants in the seminal hall of Uttaranchal  Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Law College Dehradun organizes an International Webinar on Administration

Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University organized an international webinar, under the aegis of Competition Cell, on the topic ‘‘Administration Then and Administration Now: The Changing Role of Police Administration in India’’ on 16 November 2022 with the keynote speaker Dr Kiran Bedi, Retd. IPS and former Lt. Governor of Puducherry, a well-known international figure. She is the first woman in India to join the officer rank of the Indian Police Service in 1972 and was the 24th Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry from 2016 to 2021. She remained in service for 35 years before taking voluntary retirement in 2007 as director general bureau of Police Research and Development. She also worked with the United Nations in New York as the Police Advisor to the Secretary-General and in the Department of Peace Keeping Operations. She has represented India in International forums on crime prevention, women’s issues, and drug abuse besides authoring several books; and her latest one is “Fearless Governance.”

The objective of the webinar was to provide detailed knowledge to the participants on the evolution of administration. The enlightening session began with the welcome address delivered by Ms Aarju, Convenor of Competition Cell, Dr Kiran Bedi was greeted by Dr Poonam Rawat, HoD, Law College, Dehradun. The webinar started with her condolence and a 2-minute silence for the saddest demise of Mrs Bahuguna, wife of Dr Rajesh Bahuguna, Dean of Law College Dehradun. At the outset, the keynote speaker shared her perspective on the different changes in the police administration at the time of her tenure and at present.

Dr Kiran Bedi began her presentation by shedding some light on the subject, displaying data on the state of manpower, technology, units, training, and women between January 1986 and January 2021 She explained the enormous growth of women in police administration providing the data of 1986 as compared to 2021 that a large number of women have taken part in the administration. According to the 2021 report, more than 2 lakh women currently work in police administration in states and union territories. She laid light on the gender-related issues that have decreased in the last three decades and the new emerging challenges like financial crime, cybercrimes, and cyber security, and the growing importance of Information technology.

The presentation was conveyed in a very simple language which was easily fathomable by the students and the latter half of the event had the speaker taking up doubts and queries of the participants. The event was a great success and was attended by a wide diversity of participants including students, academicians, and professionals from all over India.

The enlightening session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by The  Chairperson Mr Sachin Kumar on behalf of the competition cell organizing team.

UIM organised Industrial Visit to M.G Shahani & Company, Dehradun

An Industrial Visit to M.G Shahani & Company, Dehradun was organized by Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University for MBA Final Year students on 16 November 2022. The objective of the visit was to make the students aware of the FMCG industry, mainly focused on contract manufacturing and distribution systems.

Students were welcomed by Mr Uma Shankar Mishra, Manager HR & Admin. Firstly, students were divided into two groups and each group was escorted by the respective plant heads. The students were made to visit various facilities dealing with the manufacturing of personal care, health care, and hospitality products manufactured by the company. He also explained about the supply chain management, distribution, and marketing process of the company dealing in B2B marketing.

At the end, students were invited to queries which were responded aptly and with proper details. Students appreciated the practical exposure received by them.

Mr Bipin Kandpal, Assistant Professor, UIM, Mr Paramjit Singhand, Manager – Corporate Resource Center, Uttaranchal University, Dr Deepti Sharma, Associate Professor, UIM were the coordinators of the visit which was proposed and guided by Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM & Dr Tilottama Singh, HoD, Management.

Epiphany’, UU ELTAI Reading Club celebrated Uttarakhand Foundation Day

‘Epiphany’, UU ELTAI Reading Club celebrated Uttarakhand Foundation Day on 09.11.2022 by organising an event entitled ‘Katha-Kala’. The club decided to commemorate this day through the conduction of two events, a quiz competition and storytelling through painting. 15 teams from all the colleges of the university participated in the quiz that was based on the knowledge of Uttarakhand. Round 1 of the quiz acted as a screening round, which led to the qualification of 10 teams for participating in round 2. The following three rounds were designed to check the participants’ knowledge of the culture, history and geography of Uttarakhand. The quiz was followed by a second competition in which the participants had to bring along a painting made by them that depicted the culture of Uttarakhand. The presentation of the painting had to be followed by a story that would complement their creation. The audience witnessed the art of the students who showcased their perception of Uttarakhand through a brilliant mosaic of colours. An attempt was made to portray the famous folklores of Uttarakhand such as those of ‘Rami-Bourani’ and ‘Kafal paako, mi ni chakyo’. The audience was able to understand and became more aware of the culture of the state. The participants as well as the audience were filled with a sense of zeal as well as enthusiasm throughout the course of the event. Dr. Shravan Kumar, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts threw light on the importance of taking pride in one’s homeland and congratulated all the participants of the competitions. The entire event was managed by Dr. Anubhuti Dhyani, the coordinator of the Reading club.

Workshop on ‘‘Soft Skills: A Mandate in Developing Professionalism’

The School of Agriculture (SOA) organized a workshop on ‘‘Soft Skills: A Mandate in Developing Professionalism’ on 9th November 2022 for the students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture. Dr Rachna Juyal, SOA was the key speaker and emphasized by saying that, “Unlike the ‘Hard Skills’ that define your technical skills, ‘Soft Skills’ are your human, personal and social skills, they directly refer to your emotional intelligence. It is both your “know-how-to-be” and your “savoir-vivre”, they represent your way of communicating with others and are much more important in the context of the professional world than you might think. Soft skills are personal attributes that influence how well you can work or interact with others. These skills forming relationships with people easier, create trust and dependability and lead the team. The lecture was a worthy session for students to understand the significance of soft skills in enhancing personality and developing professionalism. The questionnaire was kept to make the session more interactive and get students’ queries with the solutions.

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organized an Awareness program on National Cancer Awareness Day

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University organized an Awareness program on National Cancer Awareness Day on 07 November 2022. The event was organised by the Pharmacology Club.

Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean UIPS welcomed all the participants and mentioned various risk factors, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment options. He briefed the participants on methods of early detection and curative measures.

Dr Ankit Sharma, Assistant Professor, UIPS, delivered a session on common cancers in the community and myths related to cancer. A total of 110 students participated in the awareness programme. Dr Ankit Sharma discussed the common risk factors and warning signs of cancer. He further added that in the present scenario college students are vulnerable to cigarette smoking, chewing tobacco, being alcoholic, and having in salutary lifestyle. It is estimated that cigarette smoking accounts for about one-third of all types of cancer, including 95 percent of lung cancer cases. Chewing tobacco and snuff also increases the risk of cancer, especially oral cancers. Alcohol causes different types of cancer such as liver, breast, brain, blood, and many more. Dr Ankit displayed a short video regarding the pathophysiology of smoking and taking alcohol-causing carcinoma which was a source of inspiration for all.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Amit Semwal. He motivated students to stay healthy and shared his noble views on cancer awareness and its prevention.
