Uttaranchal University observes National Unity Day

The National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated every year on October 31st to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who is also known as the Iron Man of India.

Under the guidelines provided by the UGC, Uttaranchal University observed National Unity Day on October 31, 2022 to honour Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s efforts to unify the nation.

A digital exhibition on “Sardar Patel- the Architect of Unification” was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University. Afterwards, Dr Shravan Kumar, Dean SLA & DSW invited Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna for oath taking ceremony. Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna along with all the present Deans/Directors, members of faculty and students took the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to stay united despite the differences.

The Exhibition was organised by the office of Dean Student Welfare. The purpose of the day was to uplift the nation’s unity and spread awareness about the contribution of Vallabhbhai Patel. The day provides an opportunity to reaffirm the strength of the nation, upholding the unity, integrity, and security of the country.

All the Dean/directors from the different Colleges/schools and members of faculty were present during the entire session.

National Unity Day

NSS & NCC unit of Uttaranchal University today observed the National Unity Day on 31 October 2022, which is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who served as the first Home Minister of India after Independence. Patel is also known as the ‘The Iron Man of India’ for his efforts for the unification of over 550 princely states.

The objective of this event is to uplift the nation’s unity and spread awareness about the contribution of Vallabhbhai Patel. National Unity Day provides an opportunity to reaffirm our nation’s inherent strength and resilience toward upholding unity, integrity, and security.

On this occasion, Lieutenant Nitin Duklan, Head NCC Uttaranchal University administered the Pledge in the spirit of unification of the country to the students of NSS & NCC. Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM emphasized that students must do everything possible to uphold the unity and integrity of the country. Mr Rakesh Semwal NSS Coordinator UIM was also present on this occasion.

Law College Dehradun wins 3rd National Moot Court Competition at HPNLU

Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University brings laurels from the 3rd National Moot Court Competition 2022 organized by Himanchal Pradesh National Law University Shimla in association with National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi from 28 October 2022 to 30 October 2022. The team comprising Shivansh Agrawal, Kumar Amogh and Shahida Parween of Law College Dehradun participated in the offline mode at Shimla where more than 70 teams participated, and 32 teams pleaded on the campus. The team won the prize of BEST MEMORIAL FROM THE SIDE OF RESPONDENTS along with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-. The chief guest of the Valedictory Session was Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Judge, High Court of Himanchal Pradesh Shimla and the Guest of Honors was Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sandeep Sharma, Judge, High Court of Himanchal Pradesh Shimla, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Satyen Vaidya, Judge, High Court of Himanchal Pradesh Shimla, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Virender Singh, Judge, High Court of Himanchal Pradesh Shimla, Prof.(Dr.) Kulwant Singh along with Prof (Dr) Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU Shimla.

World Food Day, 2022

School of Agriculture (SOA) celebrated World Food Day, 2022 on 19 October 2022 in Seminar Hall, Uttaranchal University at 12:00 pm. The event was anchored by Ms Turvi Swarnima and Ms Sangey Lhadon students of B Sc (Hons) Agriculture, semester V lucratively. The event began with lamp lighting by all the dignitaries invited to the event and later with University Kulgeet. Prof (Dr) Mahipal Singh, Dean SoA gave a warm welcome to the Guest of Honour Prof (Dr) Bharti Ramola, University Coordinator UNAI, Dr. Nidhi Nainwal, Expert Speaker from UIPS, Prof (Dr) S D Pandey, Dean UIT, HoDs, faculty members and students. He appraised the significance of the day and the theme of the year ‘Leave No One Behind’. Later, Prof Ramola briefed on the objectives and functioning of the United Nations Academic Institute (UNAI). Afterwards, Dr. Nidhi Nainwal, Expert Speaker from Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) gave a lecture on ‘Nutritious Food for Adolescent Girls, Working Women and Older Persons’. Dr Nainwal showed through various charts and PowerPoint slides the varied categories of food. She explained that it is quite important these days to focus on our diet and the pattern we are consuming. She took note of adolescent girls as the ‘future mother’ and that a nutritious diet is a mandate and a prime need for them. Dr Nainwal bifurcated the phases of a girl into three phases and showed relevance for all. She took the phases as adolescent age, working period and old age. That lecture was amazingly portrayed with images and pictures.  Afterwards, Dr Siddharth Shankar Bhatt opened the Panel Discussion on and also took a brief lecture on Why to conserve traditional agri products? Students’ Panel Discussion held on ‘Conservation of Traditional Agriculture Products of Uttarakhand’. The panel kept the need of conserving traditional agricultural products and also gave solutions for such conservation. In the end, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Head of the Department proposed a vote of Thanks and appreciated the effort of students.

School of Liberal Arts’ Knowledge Sharing Series on Research Trends in Translations

The Knowledge Sharing Series had its 10th session on 15 October 2022. The session was organized in the SLA building at 11:00 am. The speaker of this session was Dr Monika Gupta. Dr Pinki Chugh, coordinator KSS welcomed the audience and invited the speaker for knowledge sharing.

The topic was Research Trends in Translations.   Dr Monika Gupta Aggarwal shared her valuable knowledge on the topic elaborating on the concept and how it is being used in the present-day context to effectively deal with sociocultural problems of the society. Translations are the need of the time and are an active area of research. She discussed some of the best works by eminent writers that have been translated into filmic adaptations to reach the masses proving to be reformative along with entertainment value for money. Many works of Shakespeare, Jhumpa Lahiri, VS Naipaul and Chetan Bhagat, have already created benchmarks in the field.

She further added that whenever work is translated the perspectives change as per the writer. This dilutes the originality of the work.

Uttaranchal University, Dehradun organizes a hospital visit for D Pharm Students

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun organised a hospital visit to Velmed Hospital, Turner Road, Clement town Dehradun on 17 & 18 October 2022. A total of 85 students of D Pharm visited the hospital. Velmed hospital is one of the foremost healthcare treatment providers established under the CMD and Sr. Cardiologist Dr Chetan Sharma, COO Mr Vikram Singh Negi and CEO Dr Ishan Sharma.

The objective of the visit was to give students insight into how the hospital operates. Ms Sakshi Kothiyal, Public relation officer, interacted with the students and explained the working culture of the hospital. During the visit, the students visited the general ward, emergency ward, IPD, OPD, Radiology department, pathology department, and Pharmacy under the guidance of Ms Sakshi Kothiyal. Students were explained about the functioning of a hospital and how a pharmacy works within premises. The visit to the hospital was informative for students as they gained practical knowledge about the hospital and its latest trends.

The visit proved to be extremely beneficial for the students as it provided information about the diverse opportunities in a career as a pharmacist and was able to understand the skills needed to be developed for a good pharmacist. The students extended their gratitude towards Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi, Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, and Dean, UIPS, Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola for facilitating the organisation of the visit. The hospital visit was coordinated by Mr Praveen Semwal, Ms Yogita Ale and Ms Shivani Rawat.

Law College Dehradun Organized National Webinar In Association With Association Mutual Funds in India (AMFI)

Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University organized a national webinar on the topic “Wealth Creation through Personal Finance Management” in association with ‘Association Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) on the occasion of World Investors Week on 14 October 2022. Mr. Suryakant Sharma delivered the keynote address at the event, which was presided by Mr Tajender Singh, the Deputy Chairman. Pro Vice-Chancellor & Dean Law College Dehradun, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Head Law College Dehradun, Prof (Dr) Poonam Rawat, rendered their gracious presence.

Ms Silky Jain student coordinator opened the session by welcoming the distinguished speaker, faculty members and students while Dean LCD welcomed the keynote speaker with his heartwarming speech and introduced Mr Surayakant Sharma, a commerce graduate who worked in Corporate Law, Charted Associate in IIBF, leading financial services in SEBI, DGM investor officer, and Mentor of NCERT of Mutual Funds of 11th and 12th class.

Mr. Shri Surayakant Sharma, the Keynote Speaker, began by expressing his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended the webinar. He went on to explain that the program is not a promotional event and that the two topics are wealth creation and personal finance. The main issues he explained were that everyone earns money and saves it wisely, but they are unable to manage and invest it properly in order to create future earnings that keep up with inflation. The webinar was extremely interactive, and the speaker enlightened the students on the importance of properly saving some of their pocket money and investing in three websites:

  • Mutual Funds Sahi Hai
  • Money Control
  • Economic Times Money

In his closing remarks, the expert advised that investments be made with caution and that a Systemic Investment Planning (SIP) account be opened, with a minimum deposit of RS 500 and a maximum limit of unlimited. He also stated that multiple SIP accounts can be opened without being involved in any fraudulent or scam activities. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks given by Dr Vibha, the event organizer, and the National Anthem.

Uttaranchal Institute Of Management Organized Poster Making On The Occasion Of ‘himalayan Day.

The Globe Club of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, organized a Poster Making Competition to celebrate ‘Himalayan Day’ on 12th September 2022. The following themes were showcased in this competition.

1.     Deforestation in Himalayas

2.     Biodiversity in Himalayas

3.     Sustainable Tourism

4.     Impact of Urbanization in Himalayas

5.     Culture and Traditions of Himalayas

Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri addressed the students about the importance of the Himalayas in influencing climate and the necessity to preserve them for the future.

Mr Shrish Singh, Assistant Professor, UIM and Ms Sonakshi Bhatia, Head-Academic & Cultural Affairs, UIM formed the esteemed jury of the competition.

The participants were judged on the basis of explanation, the message given, neatness, colour combination and overall appearance. 72 students participated in the Poster Making Competition.

It was a successful event with the joint contribution of Mr Rohit Dhiman, Head, Globe Club, Dr Babita Rawat, Ms Sonakshi Bhatia, Ms Prerna Goyal and Dr Vijay Lahri under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Pradeep Suri, Dean, UIM.

A medical Kit distribution drive by University Women Cell

International Day of the Girl Child was celebrated by Women Cell & ICC, Uttaranchal University, by organizing a medical Kit distribution drive and Poster Presentation on 11 October 2022. The day acknowledges the importance, power and potential of adolescent girls by encouraging them to enter any field of their choice by opening more opportunities for them. The event was graced by Smt. Anuradha Joshi, Vice Chairperson, Sushila Devi Center for Professional Studies and Research. In the Welcome address, Prof (Dr) Bharti Ramola, Chairperson, Women Cell asked the girls to acquire adequate knowledge and skills to compete in various fields of their choice.

She also explained that a Medical Kit containing medicines and sanitary napkins were being provided to Women Cell of all the colleges of Uttaranchal University. If a girl suffers from any problem related to headache, cramps, or fever or if she requires an antiseptic or bandage, she can contact the coordinator of Women Cell of their respective college.

Smt. Anuradha Joshi was very pleased with the Medical kit distribution drive and stressed that it was necessary support to be provided to all the girl students so that they can work with ease. A vote of thanks was proposed by Prof.(Dr) Poonam Rawat, Chairperson, ICC, Uttaranchal University.

Ms Tuba Urooz aptly anchored the entire event with much grace and charm. A Poster Presentation was also organized on the occasion where students from various colleges displayed meaningful posters and explained them.

Smt. Anuradha Joshi and other faculty members were very impressed with the presentation skills of the students. The entire effort by Women Cell and ICC was appreciated a lot by everyone.
