Soft Skills

Soft Skills are increasingly becoming the most sought after traits by the employers across the globe. Hard skills or technical skills are tangible skills and are easily demonstrated by a candidate’s qualifications and specific professional experiences, on the contrary, soft skills is a term used by employers to refer to the most intangible and non-technical abilities that are sought from candidates. The Collins English Dictionary defines the term “soft skills” as “desirable qualities for certain forms of employment that do not depend on acquired knowledge: they include common sense, the ability to deal with people, and a positive flexible attitude.” Skills like Time Management, Networking, Team Work, Adaptability, Creative Thinking, Effective Communication, Problem Solving, Motivation and Managing Stress are few common soft skills. Behavioral attributes create the essential difference between the candidates in the interview process and proves to be the biggest distinguishing factor for career advancement. There is no dearth of technical & core subject skills among the students but the soft skills can make a person employable and bridge the gap between the expectations of the employers and the academia.

Uttaranchal University aims at lending platforms to the students to develop soft skills. To fulfill this intent various events are organized from time to time wherein the students get an insight into and opportunities to develop essential soft skills.
