Uttaranchal University in itself is a symbol of the concept ‘Gender equity’, as the trust is run in the memory of Smt. Sushila Devi Joshi, late mother of our esteemed Chancellor initiated with a philanthropic spirit in mind. In furtherance, the pioneering nature of this commitment is ensured by equal representations of females heading several departments at par with the male counterparts. The university has several societies run by student bodies which are headed by female students and every class has female students as class representatives as an evidence for equivalent in terms of rights, benefits and opportunities and parity at the governance level. Uttaranchal University has a strong ethical work culture and is committed towards the protection of Human Rights, human dignity and elimination of discrimination against women. Hence it has adopted a comprehensive gender equality action plan in all its initiatives. To navigate and accelerate the gender equality journey the University follows strict guidelines for admission, recruitment, administration and academic related activities to safeguard the interests of the students, faculty and staff members irrespective of their gender. As an evidence and commitment to gender equality the University organizes Annual sports meet which sees equal participation of both male and female students. In addition to this Uttaranchal University organized several events like workshop of “Self-Defence Techniques for Women”, Women’s day celebration, Gender sensitization programs by women cell, conferences and debates related to gender equity, to portray its inclusive and secure atmosphere.
