Uttaranchal Institute of Management organizes ‘FESTLA 2K19’

Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University, organized its Mega Fest entitled ‘FESTLA 2K19’ with great fanfare on 16th November, 2019. Alumni Meet was also conducted alongside. The event comprised of different academic, cultural and sports activities managed by their respective independent teams. Students enthusiastically grabbed the opportunity to transform their ideas into real activities.

Shri. Munna Singh Chauhan, Hon’ble MLA (Vikas Nagar) was the Chief Guest of the event. Hon’ble Chancellor – Uttaranchal University Shri. Jitender Joshi felicitated the Chief Guest. Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi felicitated Hon’ble Chancellor. Director-UIM, Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri felicitated Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi, Vice Chancellor.

The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest and Hon’ble Chancellor Shri. Jitender Joshi. Dr. Abhishek Joshi, Director – Student Affairs and IT Services and the Deans/Directors of all the constituent colleges along with other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, in his address, quoting a proverb ‘You teach me I will forget, You show me I may remember, You involve me I will never forget’ said that students involvement in activities is most important for their career and life goals. He briefed the audience about the various activities covered under the event. He also mentioned that just like Portfolio King which was taken to the next level this year, Super Six will also be upgraded next year.

Thunderous Punjabi and Garhwali Dance and song performances were presented by UIM students.

More than 30 alumni, working in MNCs and other companies, participated in the Alumni Meet. They were also given the privilege to judge the events being organized under ‘FESTLA-2K19’. They shared their corporate experiences with the students and also expressed their heart tickling feeling of coming to their alma mater.

Various clubs organised their events during the Mega Fest.

The Finance Club organized the 3-day flagship event named ‘The Portfolio King’ in the Seminar Hall. The event was an Investment Strategy Game which aimed at enhancing portfolio building skill of the students. The event also marked the formal opening of ‘FESTLA 2K19’. Dr. Pradeep Suri informed that the event was based on various avenues available for investment in addition to the stock markets. More than 40 teams from across India participated in the game. To name a few: XLRI-Bangalore, VESIM Business School-Mumbai, IBS-Jaipur, Birla Institute of Management and Technology-Noida, ICFAI University, Dehradun, IBS, Dehradun and Gurukul University, Haridwar. He also appreciated the services of Chandan Bhatt, an MCA student, who developed the related software in mere 20 days. Dr. Suri also informed that some of the prestigious institutions like IIM-Bangalore and The Doon School expressed their regret not being able to participate in the event owing to ongoing examinations.

The Marketing Club organized its flagship event ‘Super 6 … The Strategy Champions’, a creative team event in the field of Marketing wherein the participating teams needed to design a new Automobile product layout with creative features and present a Strategic Promotional Plan using Social Media, Electronic Media & the Print Media. The event was coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Amitabh Bhargava.

Codex Club organized ‘CodeEval’ to enhance the programming skills of the students and provide the much needed exposure. Such an exposure plays an important role in their placement. Ms. Vijaylakshmi Sajwan was the Faculty Coordinator of the event.

The Website Development Club of Uttaranchal Institute of Management organized an event entitled ‘Blog Development Contest’ to provide the students with a platform to learn Blog Development Techniques and sharpen their skills in all dimensions while encouraging them to develop a self- learning environment. The event was coordinated by Mr. Amar Jeet Rawat.

The Women Cell of UIM organized a ‘Rangoli Competition’ for the students with an aim to instigate their creative instincts using colours for decorating and depicting beautiful ideas and thoughts regarding Indian culture and traditions. The event was conducted by Dr. Meena Negi.

A ‘Poster Making Competition’ was organized on the theme ‘Incredible India’ with the aim of providing a platform for students to showcase their creativity and artistic skills. The event was coordinated by Dr. Deepti Sharma.

A ‘Face Painting Competition’ was organised to provide the young creative minds a platform to portray their artistic skills in the form of creative face paintings on the themes Halloween, Christmas, Save Water, Global Warming and animals or insects. The Event Coordinator was Ms. Anu Sayal.

The Sports Club organized ‘Cricket Tournament’ for girls and boys, along with Carom, Chess and Table Tennis. The Event Coordinator was Mr. Farman Ali. In all, seven matches were played in Cricket among students of various courses. 40 students, including girls and boys participated in Carom Tournament and 46 students participated in the Chess Competition. For the Table Tennis Tournament, there were 36 participants.

With the sacrosanct objective of honing the skills and unleashing the creative and innovative thinking among the students, an entrepreneurial activity titled ‘उSHMAAYAN’ was conducted. Various stalls like the enthralling DJ Stall, stalls showcasing cookery skills while keeping the entertainment also alive with games of skill were setup by students of management and IT courses of UIM. It was truly an experiential learning for the students for fathoming the real essence of entrepreneurship that looks not only fascinating but also involves total hard-work and sustained efforts. The Event Coordinator was Ms. Shailee Parmar.

The Co-ordinators of ‘Festla 2K19’ were Mr. Ravindra Singh Rawat (Incharge – Academic & Cultural Events, UIM) and Mr. Abhishek Kumar Pathak.
Hon’ble Chancellor, Shri. Jitender Joshi congratulated Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri and his entire team for the highly successful and well-executed event.

The day concluded with the Valedictory Ceremony which was graced by the presence of Shri. Jitender Joshi, Prof.(Dr.) N.K. Joshi and Dr. Abhishek Joshi.

The winners of all the events were awarded with Trophies and Certificates. Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri proposed the Vote of Thanks towards all the distinguished guests. He conveyed his gratitude towards all his Faculty Members and Technical & Non-Technical Staff for planning, executing and supporting the event.
