Webinar conducted On “Development in Applied Science with Women Empowerment” in collaboration by ACS-UU chapter with Resonance Club & IUPAC

GATE 2019

On Global Women’s Breakfast Day, the ACS-UU International Chapter, in collaboration with Resonance Club (Chemistry), hosted a webinar titled “Development in Applied Science with Women Empowerment.” The event was created by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and is held worldwide to recognise women’s contributions to science and technology every year. The webinar was inaugurated by Dean of Applied Science Prof Ajay Singh, Guest speaker Prof Sonal Sharma, head of department & Mr Shivam Pandey, Coordinator of the ACS-UU International Chapter.

Mr Shivam Pandey greeted the virtual participants and introduced the event’s Guest Speaker and briefed them about the schedule of different events in the webinar.

Dr Ajay Singh delivered a welcome talk, and he addressed the participants about the contribution of women in the Science field and highlighted diversity in scientific fields.  He emphasized the importance of women in science and technology. Dr Sonal Sharma, the day’s guest speaker, talked about the problems that women generally encounter in the sciences and in everyday life. Dr Sonal Sharma, Head Computer & Applications, gave an insightful overview of women’s empowerment in science. Students were connected virtually.

Dr Sukriti Singh, Coordinator Foodtech Department and Dr Sadhana Awasthi, Assistant Professor, Chemistry. also addressed the participants for the day. On this occasion, many students participated in online presentations. Tuba Urooj, a sixth-semester B Sc (H) chemistry student, and Jahnvi Parihar, a fourth-semester B Sc (H) chemistry student, both talked on the subject and put forward their views. They were selected winners.

Over 100 students from disciplines of Chemistry, Food Technology, Mathematics, Biotechnology, and Physics attended the event. The ceremony was concluded gracefully with a Vote of Thanks offered by Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean-SALS, who expressed thanks to the session’s speaker. He also praised the event organiser Mr Shivam Pandey, on a job well done in organising the event and interacting with the virtual audience. Everyone enjoyed the programme and received knowledge on a critical issue of the twenty-first century: women and their contributions to science.
