Department of Chemistry, under the aegis of Uttaranchal University organized a two-day Chemistry Festival from 24th March to 25th March, 2021. The festival was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Devender Pathak, Director –SA & IT (Dr.) Abhishek Joshi, Dean – Sciences Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, (Dr.) Poonam Negi and Mr Shivam Pandey by lightning the auspicious lamp. The festival was organized in association with American Chemical Society (ACS) by the UU-ACS International Chapter. The main theme of the event was “Hands on Approach of Chemistry in Daily Life” which focussed on the magic of chemistry in our regular life. The young & enthusiastic students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry and M.Sc. (Chemistry/IC) showcased their ability and out of the box thinking capability to demonstrate a number of experiments such as Magical Pen, Chemical Bar, Lava Lamp, Preparation of Soap and many others. A number of students from various schools such as Government Inter College (Harrawala), Dehradun Public School, Doon Presidency, Kendriya Vidyalaya (IMA) and many others participated enthusiastically. The students were enthralled by the magic of chemistry. On the occasion, Quiz and Poster Competition was also organized. The event ended with Prize Distribution. Nikhil and Piyush of GIC, Harrawala got the First and Second Prize respectively while Anshika Rawat of Kendriya Vidyalaya (IMA) was awarded the Third Prize in the Quiz Competition. Vishwajeet, Vibha, Suryapratap and Vishal of M.Sc. Chemistry were awarded for their demonstration while Ankit Joshi, Sumit Bhatt, Himani Bhandari and Yukta Saklani got the prize for the “Most Popular Demo”.
The event was conceptualized by Dean – Sciences Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh and ACS Chapter Co-ordinator Mr. Shivam Pandey. Dr. Tarun Kumar, Dr. Waseem Ahmad, Mr. Manoj, Mr. Gurmeet and Ms. Megha Thakur helped in making the event a huge success. On this occasion Dean – Sciences Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Dean – Agriculture M.P. Singh, Dean – Pharmacy Vikas Jakhmola, Co-ordinator of Event Mr. Shivam Pandey, Dr. Bharti Ramola, Dr. Poonam Negi and others were present. Almost 150 students participated in the event. ACS awarded Dean – Sciences Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh with the Most Commendable Award for the Chemistry Festival and funded 1500USD for best Chemistry Festival Project in India.
