Uttaranchal Institute of Technology celebrates ‘International Mother Language Day – 2021’

‘International Mother Language Day’ is celebrated worldwide each year on 21 February to “Promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world”. It was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly with the adoption of UN resolution 56/262. The declaration came up in tribute to the Language Movement conducted by the Bangladeshis (then the East Pakistanis).

India is a country of diverse dialects and languages. Each Language and Dialect has hundreds of years of heritage and culture inculcated in them. Uttaranchal Institute of Technology, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, also registered its participation in the celebration of the day with enthusiasm and awareness towards language diversity of the country. The theme for the Year 2021 is “fostering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society”.

Considering the theme of the International Mother Language Day, UIT displayed the diversity of languages through its students having different languages and dialects from almost entire country and its different regions, yet sharing the same platform to achieve the individual goals. Students shared the significance of their mother language and displayed placards to support their mother tongue. On this occasion Director-UIT, Heads of different Departments and Faculty Members were present. Prof. (Dr.) S. D. Pandey, Director-UIT, emphasized on adoption of multilingualism in technology for better understanding and overall growth of the society. The initiative was taken by Department of Computer Science & Engineering. At last, Dr. Minakshi Memoria, HOD-CSE proposed the Vote of Thanks to all the attendees of the event.
