Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organizes Students Induction Program 2022-23

Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences organised a Students Induction Programme for all the new students from 01 August 2022 to 06 August 2022. The program commenced with a warm welcome of the Guests Hon’ble Chancellor, Shri Jitender Joshi, Vice President, Prof (Dr) Satbir Singh Sehgal, Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Dr Babu, Dean, Uttaranchal College of Nursing along with faculty members. The dignitaries lit the inaugural lamp followed by the recital of the University Kulgeet.

Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean UIPS, welcomed the students with his motivational lecture emphasizing the importance and role of the pharmacist in society. Hon’ble Chancellor welcomed and addressed the students to follow the norms of the university. Vice-President, Dr Satbir Singh Sehgal, encouraged the students to utilise the opportunity through the University resources to develop skills in both theoretical and practical aspects.  Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi encouraged the students to go for entrepreneurship and start-ups along with their studies.  Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna stressed the importance of time management and setting goals to gain desired success in life.

After the Inaugural session, Dr Amit Semwal, HoD UIPS, delivered an overview of the Academic curriculum and introduced the new students to the faculty fraternity of UIPS. He also made aware the students about the maintenance of attendance criteria to appear in the exam as per the PCI rules. Dr Tarun Parashar, Associate Professor UIPS, informed the students about the examination & assessment criteria as per ordinance and CGPA system.

All the students and faculty members visited classrooms, library, laboratories, machine room, seminar hall, common room, herbal garden, parking areas, canteen and various UIPS campus amenities. They were also taken for a campus visit and were shown all constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University along with the Central Library, Central Computer Centre, Food Court, ATM, Gym and other facilities of the Universities.

The Bridge course was introduced to the students, where the members of faculty informed about the course subjects and syllabus so that before entering their classrooms, they get to know about the brief introduction about the subject studying in the Pharmacy Profession. A singing and dancing competition for the students was conducted.

On the third day, an Interactive session by Mr Iqbal Singh Sawhney, Sr. Manager, Corporate Resource Center of Uttaranchal University was conducted. Mr. Iqbal talked about the importance of skill, job opportunities and building yourself target oriented.

An Educational Science Trip was also organized and the students visited the Regional UCOST Science Centre Sudhowala, Dehradun. The visit provided a great way to arouse the curiosity in mind of students and was full of thrilling and motivating experiences.

On the fourth day, a session was conducted by Experts from the Division of Research and Innovation, Uttaranchal University for fresher students by Prof (Dr) Anita Gehlot, Head, R & I. She talked about Industry 4.0, Pharma 4.0, IOT, Cloud computing, patents. A session on Library by Mr. Arun Thakur, Librarian was conducted for the students for a better understanding of the rule and regulations of the library in the Institute and Central Library and the process of issuing and returning of books and all the policies related Library. The Library web portal was also explained.

Mr. Arun Thakur along with Ms. Poonam also informed the students about University ERP. In this session, Ms Poonam, explained how to check the timetable and attendance as well as all the academic parameters related to the students.

On Day 5 the Institute had organized an Educational Visit to Forest Research Institute, Dehradun for the students and they visited a botanical garden and six different museums based on social forestry, pathology, silviculture, timber, nonwood forest products and entomology. Later debate competition was organized for the students by the class coordinators Ms Yogita Ale, Mrs Shirtsti Morris, Mrs Shilpa Rana, Ms Shalu Verma on the topic “Is technology making people dumber or smarter?” and  “Human Gene editing – Good or Bad?” 

A Guest Lecture by Mr Tribhuwan Semwal, General Manager Production, Uni Medico Labs, Dehradun was organized and Mr Semwal talked about the various scope and roles of Pharmacist, He also discussed the Scope of Pharmacy in abroad. The last day of the Student Induction Program started with the Lectures of Bridge Course classes, At the end, Bridge Course Assessment was conducted through the multiple choice question papers which were designed on the basis of their Bridge Course classes. The Feedback related Student Induction program was taken from the new entrants with a motive to know their opinion about the Institute and the University.
