Uttaranchal Institute of Management organizes an Awareness Campaign on ‘Garbage Recycling and Reuse Management’

The Globe Club (Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment Club) of Uttaranchal Institute of Management, under the aegis of Uttaranchal University, organized an Awareness Campaign on ‘Garbage Recycling and Reuse Management’ and conducted walk in the university campus on 18th October, 2018 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Pradeep Suri (Director-UIM). Dr. Sonal Sharma (HOD- Computer Applications) graced the occasion by her benign presence. The activity was supervised by Dr. Mamta Bansal (Head – Globe Club), along with the members of Globe Club, namely Ms. Pooja Gupta, Ms. Kanika Singhal, Ms. Prabhjot Kaur, and Mr. Rohit Dhiman. The objective of the event was to promote waste reduction, reuse and recycling through an awareness raising campaign based on a strategy aiming to inform, educate and motivate the mass. The campaign aimed to bring about notable changes in the perceptions, awareness and habits of general public and targeted group (students as well as sanitation workers working in the university campus). The main objective of the event was on understanding the concept of 5 R’s: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose; and encouraging behavioral change towards more sustainable waste management practices.

Dr. Mamta Bansal conducted this campaign through the students of various courses of UIM. Around 95 students participated in the campaign walk. A critical component in any waste management program is public awareness and participation, hence such awareness campaigns will be beneficial to make the target audience aware about the significance of recycling and recovery of the domestic solid waste.
