Uttaranchal Institute of Management conducts a Guest Lecture on Ethics

Corporate Resource Centre, Uttaranchal Institute of Management, Uttaranchal University organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Ethics Matters – Ethics for Students and Young Professionals’ on 12th February, 2020 for the students pursuing MBA, B.Com. (Honours), BBA, MCA, BCA and B.Sc. (IT) programmes.

The Resource Person was Mr. Rahul Sharan, a stalwart in the domain of Banking, also a Consultant by profession and author of the book titled ‘Ethics Matters – The Time Is Now’. Mr. Rahul has a rich experience of more than 20 years.

The event initiated with the felicitation of the Resource Person Mr. Rahul Sharan by Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri (Director-UIM). The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Iqbal Singh Sawhney (Head-Training & Placement), Dr. Anshul Sharma (HOD-Management) and Dr. Sonal Sharma (HOD-IT). Master of Ceremony, Mr. Shivendra Singh Chaudhary welcomed all the dignitaries, Faculty Members and students. He introduced the topic of the day along with some crucial characteristics of ethical practices in our daily lives.

Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri delivered the Inaugural Address and highlighted the significance of ethical practices in any firm. He ignited a spark in all the students by throwing common questions related to ethics; mind-tickling moments for all the learners that constituted the audience. He also emphasized on the responsibly-fulfilled role of statutory academic bodies like AICTE and UGC in incorporating Ethics as a mandatory subject of study for the youth in their latest curricular upgradations. Dr. Suri contributed by elucidating on the difference in closely related terms, ‘morale’ and ‘ethics’, cogitating on their collaborative existence that is an integral part of every human life which may, in turn, lead individuals to strive towards creation of a beautiful world, keeping us all away from annihilations.

After the Inaugural Address, Mr. Rahul Sharan began to deliver his enlightening content and interacted soulfully with students whom he regarded as the future players of the corporate. He aimed to develop an interest in them to create an impactful learning environment. Mr. Sharan vehemently emphasized on the various facets of ethics which gestates from one’s family values and outspreads to the entire society, spanning the government, business and all other stakeholders, as inseparable components, with lucidity. His edifying delivery encapsulated all functional levels of ethics, suitably exemplified with both national and global scenarios, to ensure clarity of thought in the audience.

Furthermore, he assertively highlighted the various stages during which an individual falls prey to a dichotomous situation of ethical dilemma along with the mantras like equity for all, following the path of righteousness, to overcome this confusing, and sometimes, agonising state. Lastly, Mr. Sharan marked a satiating end of his session by reiterating on the implications of ethics in the areas of Artificial Intelligence followed by stating the expectations and anticipations for the forthcoming years in context of advantageous applications of ethically-driven behaviours in the society.

The event was successfully concluded with Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Sonal Sharma. This Workshop turned out to be a huge success with the support of Mr. Abhishek Kumar Pathak (Cultural & Academic In-Charge), Mr. Anoop Negi (Registrar, UIM) and Mr. Anand Rawat (Lab In-charge, UIM).
