School of Applied and Life Sciences celebrates ‘World Water Day’

BIOGENERIKA, the Student Club of Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied and Life Sciences, celebrated World Water Day on 22nd March, 2021 by organizing an Awareness Programme on ‘Conservation of Water Resources’. As we all know no one can live without water and this is the primary requirement of all living beings. The occasion was adorned with the presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Devender Pathak as the Chief Guest of the event while Dean of SALS Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh was the Guest of Honor. The event commenced with the felicitation of the guests followed by address of Dr. Nishesh Sharma. Prof. (Dr.) Singh, Principal SALS, stated about Water Day motto and importance of its conservation. He made the audience understand the importance of water in life. Earth is the only known planet in this universe that has water and life. The wastage of clean drinking water is one of the most serious threats in front of the world. This was followed by a thought kindling speech delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Devender Pathak, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, who raised the awareness and conveyed that 2.2 billion people were living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of sustainable development. He also added about incineration of human bodies and its harmful effects on River Ganges.

The young & vibrant students of M.Sc. & B.Sc. (Biotechnology/Microbiology) gave PowerPoint Presentations on the theme of this year’s World Water Day, i.e., ‘Implementation of scientific knowledge in conservation of water & water bodies’. Prizes were given as a token of appreciation to the budding activists. Clifford Chand was awarded with ‘Best Presentation’ followed by Pallavi, Akshat and Aakruti winning Second Prize and Km. Munni won the Third Prize. The event was coordinated by Dr. Indra Rautela, Dr. Rohit Sharma, Dr. Vivekanand Bahuguna, Dr. Rakesh Matura, Dr. Deepa and Dr. Pallavi Joshi.
