Law College Dehradun organizes Lecture Series by LCD Alumni on the topic ‘Writ Petition Under Article 226 &32 of the Indian Constitution’

Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University organized a guest lecture on a very relevant and interesting topic, “Writ Petition under Articles 226 & 32 of The Constitution of India” on 23 September 2022The keynote speaker for this awaited event was Adv. Mobashshir Sarwar, a proud alumnus of Law College Dehradun. The session commenced by welcoming the keynote speaker by the organizing committee of the Training and Recruitment Division. Thereafter, the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean Law College Dehradun Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna introduced Mr Sarwar and expressed his pride in the alumni of Law College Dehradun. He also announced that a series of guest lectures will be conducted with the alumnus of Law College Dehradun as keynote speakers in events to come.

Mr Mobashshir Sarwar has been a Panel Counsel for various universities and has also been a part of Centre for Study of Developing Society, supported by the Indian Council for Social Science Research, New Delhi under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Mr Sarwar described the history of writs and said Article 32 is the cornerstone of the entire constitution. He also highlighted the distinctions between Articles 32 and 226 while discussing the writs under that article and how they are issued. To make the session interactive he put forth questions among students and then elaborated on types of writs by illustrating various landmark judgments and explained the intricacies in detail. To make the topic understandable, Mr Sarwar took the help of cases of journalists Mr Zubair and Nupur Sharma and explained the factual aspects, propositions, grounds, and prayers mentioned in the writ petition thoroughly, by actually showing the format of a writ petition which was drafted by himself. He summed up the session by explaining the writs in brief and motivated students to study & research more about the topic.

The enriching session was concluded with the ‘Vote of Thanks’ proposed by the organizing committee on behalf of the team of the Training and Recruitment Division, Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University.
