Law College Dehradun organizes an Educational Tour to study the social, legal and cultural factors affecting the life of Van Gujjar- a Tribe of Indigenous People in Uttarakhand.

Law College Dehradun, a Faculty of Uttaranchal University organized an Educational Tour to ‘Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra’ (RLEK), on 9th December, 2017. The objective of this Tour was to enable the students to understand the aspects of sustainable and just society. Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra had organized an interactive session for the students. The Session was presided by Padam Shri Avdesh Kaushal, Chairman-RLEK in the benign presence of Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Principal-Law College Dehradun and Dr. Nivedita Mishra Thapliyal, Assistant Professor-Sociology. In his address Shri Avdesh Kaushal highlighted the key issues of the society like Bonded Labour, Environmental Issue, Gender Equality, Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers. He suggested measures to curb the various societal problems. The session was concluded with open ended questions and various legal suggestions from the students of Law College Dehradun.

According to Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, Principal & Dean-Law College Dehradun:

“This is the first step towards the study of indigenous people in Uttarakhand. We are looking forward for more visits to dears (Residence of Van Gujjars in Forest) of indigenous people in the forest and to reach the unreached and include the excluded.”
