Women Cell of Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University organized a Guest Lecture on “Women Empowerment” on 9th December, 2017. The Expert Lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Divya Juyal, Director, Himalayan Institute of Pharmacy and Research, Dehradun.
All the girl students of UIPS and Faculty Members attended the lecture. The lecture dealt with marginality of women drawn out of statistical information, the kinds of problems faced by women in cases of crime against women and types of legal remedies used to put such crimes to an end. Students were made aware of the different crimes against women such as female foeticide, rape, kidnapping, dowry deaths or attempts to murder, torture amounting to both mental and physical assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty, honour killings etc. faced by both rural and urban women in India. The Guest Speaker highlighted the importance of women in every field with the help of video clips. She further explained that 21st century has created a world full of creative challenges and opportunities for Indian Women who are transforming India by their active contribution in economic, socio-cultural and environmental spheres. At the same time, they are agents of peace-keeping, peace building and peace-making.
It was an informative session for one and all. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks.
