Law College Dehradun organized Legal Aid to create awareness of the law among Panchayat Representatives.

Law College Dehradun under the aegis of Uttaranchal University organized A Legal Aid Camp , at Babugarh Panchayat of Vikasnagar Block . The objective of the camp was to create awareness of law among the Panchayat representatives and the population of this block. The camp was attended by the Panchayat representatives from Vikasnagar, Kalsi, Chakrata and Sahaspur blocks. District and Sessions Judge, Mr.Mohammad Sultan was the Chief Guest and Mr. Kuldeep Sharma Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, was special invitee on the occasion.
Student members of attached with Legal Awareness Cell of Law College presented a skit “Aadarsh Gram Ki Panchayat” to explain through the dramatic situations the procedure followed in the Panchayat election and effective conduct of Panchayat functions . The students also showed plight of victims of domestic violence and aspirants of Indira Awas. Expert lectures on selection of beneficiaries of various panchayat programmes, allocation and maintenance of panchayat Lands, First Information Report, Right to Information, Legal Aid and Environment related Laws and Domestic Violence were also delivered.
Addressing the students and the guests the District and Sessions Judge, Justice Mohammad Sultan stated that laws, the biggest challenge to implement the laws made by Union and State Legislatures is delay ,and their implementation in accordance with the basic precincts of the Constitution, so as to benefit the common masses. He said that in most of the cases, the benefits of the various welfare schemes do not reach the masses due to the lack of awareness among them. He declared the programmes conducted by Legal Aid Centre of Law College Dehradun as an excellent ‘revolutionary Step’ in this direction.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Mr. Jitendra Joshi said that his entrance in the field of education was through the establishment of Law College Dehradun and hence he is determined to ensure that the knowledge of law is not restricted to a few people and books but must reach the every nook and corner of the country.Secretary of Legal Services Authority, Shri Kuldeep Sharma said that providing legal assistance to the needy people is the obligation of government. He distributed the copies of simplified Law books among the representatives of the Panchayats.
Principal and Dean of the College Dr. Rajesh Bahuguna stressed that in the wake of delayed and expensive judicial system, it is advisable to settle the disputes out of the court in those cases where agreements can be reached. He exhorted the villagers to seek assistance from the Legal Aid Centre of Law College Dehradun to settle petty disputes occurring in their villages.
The other distinguished speakers on the occasion were Vice Chancellor Prof. S. C. Joshi, Former President State Bar Association, Shri Surendra Mittal, current President of State Bar Association, Ch. Vijay Pal, Pradhan Dakpathar Shri Subodh Goyal, Pradhan Karam Chand B.D.C. Subhash Prasad.
Those present on the occasion were Vice Chairperson of Uttaranchal University Mrs Anuradha Joshi, G.P. Sharma, Dr. Abhishek Joshi, Vikasnagar Pramukh Tara Devi, Sahaspur Pramukh Ranjana Tomar, Kalsi Pramukh Arjun Singh, Raipur Pramukh Beena Bahuguna, Devendra Joshi, Rajesh Pokhriyal, Jagdish Joshi, Dr. Poonam Rawat, Kumar Ashutosh and hundreds of students and villagers.
