‘Himalaya Diwas’ celebration-Poster presentation

The Himalayas are our global heritage- keeping this in mind an initiative was started in 2010 by a group of noted environmentalists and activists including Sunder Lal Bahuguna, Anil Joshi and Radha Behan, got together to develop the concept of celebrating Himalayan Day. This day is celebrated to spread the message that solutions for sustainable development and ecological stability for the Himalayas must be as unique as the Himalayan ecosystem itself.

The major challenges facing the Himalayas are– increasing population, rampant urbanization, unchecked deforestation, melting of glaciers and other such ecological disruptions are rapidly triggering disasters in this fragile ecosystem.

This year also Eco- club of Uttaranchal University celebrated Himalaya Day on 9th September 2020. In- order to create awareness about this ecosystem during the present scenario of Pandemic, the members of eco- club of Uttaranchal University prepared videos where they spoke about the importance of the Himalayas and some even related the pandemic with the healing of nature.

A large number of students of constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University participated in the event by sending creative and informative videos.

The event was organized by Dr. Bharti Ramola and was coordinated by Mr. Shivam Pandey and Dr. Poonam Negi.

The event was highly appreciated by the president of eco-club, Dr. Ajay Singh, he was impressed by the creativity and knowledge shown by the students.
