Department of Mechanical Engineering organizes an Industrial Tour to Kirby Building Systems, Haridwar

An Industrial Tour to Kirby Building Systems, Haridwar was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, UIT on 15th November, 2019 for the II and III Year students of B. Tech. (ME). The objective of the tour was to familiarize the students to engineering industry environment.

An Industrial Tour provides the required exposure to the students and also gives them a practical edge which helps them to understand the theoretical aspects accurately. A proper balance of theoretical and practical exposure transforms the students of today to form tomorrow’s competent professionals.

Kirby Building Systems is a manufacturing company specializing in Pre-engineered buildings. It was established in 1976 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alghanim Industries. It is certified to ISO 9001 quality standard and has Sales Offices in 70 countries. Kirby centralized its systems, performance, people and products. Kirby has over 500 people using software for designs and structural detailing as part of the Center of Engineering Excellence (CEE) in Hyderabad in India. Kirby has a total of five manufacturing facilities located in Kuwait, Ras-Al-Khaimah (UAE), Vietnam and India, with a total annual capacity of approximately 400,000 MT, supported by over 4,000 employees. Globally, Kirby has more than 300 certified builders for the installation of steel buildings. Kirby has manufactured more than 65,000 buildings across the globe, including the world’s single largest PEB building, the Renault Nissan factory in India.

Ms. Kusha, Head – HR Department welcomed the students and gave a presentation on the industry’s working which covered all the important aspects like Production, Quality, Safety and Maintenance followed by the visit to different departments of company such as Rolling Machine Section, Welding Section, Cladding of Sheet Section. It was an enriching experience both for students and accompanying faculty members as they explored the work culture of the industry.

Students termed the visit as a real-life learning experience and were excited to feel the dynamic vibes of the industry. The students realized the importance of their academic pedagogy as they could relate and transfer their theoretical knowledge to practical implication.

The students were accompanied by Faculty Coordinators, namely, Ms. Shivani Pande and Mr.Ravi Batra.
This endeavor was highly appreciated by Hon’ble Chancellor, Mr. Jitender Joshi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N. K. Joshi and Head of Department Mr. S.K.Joshi.
