Women Cell of School of Applied and Life Sciences organizes a Debate Competition on the topic “#Me Too is being utilized or misused by women nowadays!”

Women Cell of School of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University organized a Debate Competition on 18th October, 2018. The topic of the debate was the most discussed topic on social media: “#Me Too is being utilized or misused by women nowadays!”

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Principal-SALS. He applauded the efforts of the Women Cell of the college in organizing such a programme where students were provided a platform to showcase their underlying talent.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Bharti Ramola, Coordinator – Women Cell, SALS, along with members of the cell, namely, Dr. Poonam Negi, Dr. Shuchi Upadhayay and Dr.Indra Rautela. Mr. Shivam Pandey aided in the organization of the same.The event was anchored by Miss Unaiza Rehman. Miss Aditi Thapa was the Student Coordinator and the timekeeper of the event.

A large number of students participated enthusiastically and spoke in favour of and against the motion. It was indeed a very tough competition. The students who supported the #Me Too movement considered it to be a platform for a person to write about some traumatic experience of their life mostly related to sexual harassment faced by them. The opponents differed in their views wherein they said that this movement was just a way of tarnishing the image of a person. According to them #Me Too was a way to settle ones scores.

The debate was judged by Prof.(Dr.) Ajay Singh, Dr. Poonam Negi and Dr. Shuchi Upadhay.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Bharti Ramola, who thanked the Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, the Jury, Faculty Members, participants and the large number of students for witnessing the event.

Winner : Sumit Bhatt [B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry]
Runner up : Varsha Rai [B.Sc. (Hons.) Food Technology]
