On the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’ a Plantation Program was organized in Uttaranchal University on 5th June, 2020. Hon’ble Chancellor Shri. Jitender Joshi graced the occasion with his benign presence and participation. The Deans, Directors, Principals and the Head of Departments along with Faculty Members of various departments were present at the plantation site. Social distancing was strictly followed. One and all present on the occasion planted a sapling, mostly comprising of medicinal plants.
Hon’ble Chancellor Shri. Jitender Joshi informed that the entire university campus comes under Green Campus Project as per the policy of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of the Central Government, in which all the energy is being obtained through solar energy in the first phase.
Environment Day is the biggest annual event which takes place for positive environmental actions and has been celebrated since 1974. This is the day wherein every individual can show his love for nature. The day also enables one to be more responsible in the way they deal with their surroundings.
In his address, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (Officiating) of the University Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna said that the University intends to organize various programs in view of the theme of ‘Biodiversity’ assigned for this year’s Environment Day. Biodiversity is typically a measure of variation at the genetic, species, and ecosystem level. This includes the University’s agreement with Uttarakhand’s Biodiversity Board under which various programs of national and international level related to biodiversity will be organized in the University.
The program was conducted by Dr. Minakshi Memoria, while the coverage was ensured by Mr. Ved Prakash , Mr. Pradeep Dabral and Mr. Dheeraj Bisht.
Dr. Muneesh Sethi, Dr. Pradeep Suri, Dr. Ajay Singh, Dr. J.P. Mishra, Dr. Poonam Rawat, Dr. Shriya Goyal, Dr. Anuj Mittal, Dr. S.K. Shah, Dr. Manish Badoni, Ms. Smriti Uniyal, Mr. Himanshu Goyal, Mr. K.V. Pokhriyal along with all the Department Heads and teachers were present on the occasion.
