Uttaranchal University IEEE Student Chapter and Department of Computer Science and Engineering organizes a one-day Seminar on “Cyber Security” under “Bharat Ka Amrit Mahotsav”

Cyber security is the practice of protecting system networks and programs from digital attacks. These cyber-attacks are usually aimed at accessing changing or destroying sensitive information, extorting money from users, or interrupting normal business process. Implementing effective cyber security measures is particularly challenging today because there are more devices than people and attacks are becoming more innovative.

Uttaranchal University IEEE Student Chapter and Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized a one-day Seminar on “Cyber Security” on 23rd March, 2021 under ‘Bharat Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ on the occasion of 75 years of Independence of India.

The objective of the seminar was to create awareness among the students regarding cyber security norms, ethical hacking in cyber security, performing live attacks and career in cybersecurity.

Prof. (Dr.) S.D Pandey (Dean – UIT) delivered the Welcome Address. His opening words stressed upon the necessity of cybersecurity and impact of cyber attacks on common people. He encouraged the students to become a savior rather than a victim.

Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pathak motivated the students and encouraged them to excel in respective fields. He shared information regarding attacks performed on a person’s data on day to day basis like Phishing and he also talked about cyber security fields which can help students to build their career in.

Mr. Rahul Kumar, CEO, Cyber Wings LLP, was the Keynote Speaker. He is a certified Ethical Hacker from EC council. He has expertise of ethical hacking skills, networking and server skills like firewalls evasion and vulnerabilities assessment with the experience of more than 5 years.

In his opening statement he talked about the importance of cyber security which encompasses everything that pertains to protect our sensitive data. He shared valuable information regarding Ethical Hacking and various attacks targeted on data.

The Keynote Speaker performed some live attacks like Phishing and Vishing and also elaborated upon the method of creating SPOOF URL.

He advised students to always use a strong password and to update system regularly in order to secure personal information from attacks. He further talked about the Top Cyber Security Certification like CEH V11, OSCP CHFI and CCSP which can be very fruitful in starting a career in cyber security.

Mr. Somil Kumar Gupta (Assistant Professor, CSE), Mrs. Madhu Kirola (Assistant Professor, CSE) were the committee members to organize the seminar. Mansi Mahur (Student, 3rd Year, CSE) and Aditi (Student, 3rd Year, CSE) were the host of the seminar.

Head of Department – Computer Science and Engineering Prof. (Dr.) Minakshi Memoria proposed Vote of Thanks to all attendees in the seminar. It was attended by faculty members and students of Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
