NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University organizes ‘Essay Writing Competition’ in observance of “Cleanliness Fortnight”

NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University organized an “Essay Writing Competition” on 11th September 2017 as part of the cleanliness fortnight which was observed from 9th to 24th September 2017. As many as a hundred (100) students participated in this competition to give the message of cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene to everyone. The students came from almost every constituent college of the university and therefore they represented not only all the educational streams of the University but also different states of the country.

The student participants who were brought forward by the volunteers of the NSS unit expressed their varied views on the topic through the medium of English and Hindi. The students wrote on the ever increasing problem of pollution due to the deforestation and rising population. Few wrote meticulously on the problem of the rising pollution levels because of the ever increasing number of vehicles on the road. Few students brought into focus the problems of rural people who have to shift every day to the urban areas in search of employment that causes more and more pressure on the urban sanitation system. Many students chose to highlight the importance of saving our natural water resources from the industrial waste that is being put into our rivers and other water resources regularly.

The winners of this competition were suitably rewarded by the University and the work of the students was fairly praised by the members of the jury who said that the students are laying the foundation of a new India through their revolutionary ideas. Dr. V. K. Srivastava gave away the prizes to the winners of this event.
