NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University observes International Yoga Day

The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India. The Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.

Uttaranchal University has always felt proud in taking the great legacies and traditions of this country ahead. Besides, the university has given great importance to the holistic development of its students and therefore the university has celebrated the International Yoga Day on June 21, 2019 like the previous years.

The students were prepared for yoga since the morning under the guidance of expert trainers. Around hundred volunteers and students together has performed various yogic postures and also performed Pranayamas. The students showed their adeptness in yoga and many volunteers expressed their happiness and feeling of health and fitness after the sessions. The trainers while addressing the volunteers explained the scientific health benefits of doing various Asanas. It was also ensured that all volunteers did it in the right way and with enthusiastic spirit.

While speaking on the concluding ceremony of the event Dr. V. K. Srivastava said that the tradition of Yoga is thousands of years old and it has always helped in the moral and spiritual character development of the people who practiced it besides adding to their health.
