Uttaranchal University celebrates ‘International Women’s Day 2021’

8th March, International Women’s Day, brings along with it a cause for celebration, a reason to pause & re-evaluate, an inspiration and a time to feel honoured, loved & admired. To honour womanhood, under the canopy of Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, Women Cell of Uttaranchal University along with Women Sexual Harassment Redressal Cell, Uttaranchal University and in association with IEEE Student Chapter Uttaranchal University celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’ by organizing a series of events. On Saturday 6th March, 2021 a Health Talk was organized for all female faculty members and girl students of Uttaranchal University.

The event was inaugurated by Guest Speaker Dr. Sumita Prahakar, Hon’ble Chancellor Mr. Jitender Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Devender Pathak, Dean – School of Liberal Arts Prof. (Dr.) Shriya Goyal, Chairperson – Women Cell, Prof. (Dr.) Poonam Rawat, Chairperson – Women Sexual Harassment Redressal Committee, Prof. (Dr.) Bharti Ramola, Chairperson Student Grievance Redressal Cell Prof. (Dr.) Sonal Sharma along with the Guests Dr. Deepika Rana and Dr. Pooja.

Prof. (Dr.) Bharti Ramola, Head-Women Sexual Harassment Redressal Cell, welcomed all the guests and gave a brief introduction of Guest Speaker Dr. Sumita Prabhakar, Head of Gynecology at CMI Hospital, Dehradun.

Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, in his message, praised the role of women in every sphere of life and asked the girl students to aspire to achieve their dreams.
Dr. Sumita Prabhakar gave an informative talk on ‘Future of Women’s Health, and Cancer Prevention with Education’. Her major focus was on Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer. She had an interactive session with the students and faculty at the end of her talk wherein she addressed queries of the students.

The event was organized by Prof. (Dr.) Bharti Ramola and assisted by Ms. Madhu Kairola, Coordinator – Women Cell, UIT and Ms. Aarti Rana Member – Women Cell UIT.

The event was an eye opener for many students through which they learned about varied aspects like health and hygiene, how cervical cancer can be prevented and self examination for Breast Cancer. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Poonam Rawat.
