Uttaranchal Institute of Technology organizes a Workshop on “An Insight into different Civil Engineering Software”

A five-day online Workshop entitled “An Insight into different Civil Engineering Software” was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering from 20th October, 2020 to 24th October, 2020. Three software, namely, STAAD.Pro, Revit Architecture and MX Road were covered in this five-day workshop. The workshop was successfully organized by Mr. Gaurav Thakur (Assistant Professor) and Mr. Shubham Khatri (Assistant Professor) of the Department of Civil Engineering with great zeal. The workshop started with an opening note delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Kumar, Director, UIT, which motivated the students to attend the workshop with sincerity and imbibe the content being delivered.

Timeline:

20th and 21st October 2020 (Tuesday & Wednesday)

In the first two days of the workshop, STAAD.Pro Connect Edition software was covered. STAAD.Pro is a structural analysis and design software originally developed by Research Engineers International at Yorba Linda, CA in 1997. In late 2005, Research Engineers International was bought by Bentley Systems. The training was given by Mr. Neeraj Yadav from Advanced Educare Training Pvt. Ltd., Ghaziabad. In the first day of the workshop, training was given on the fundamentals of the software along with the analysis of RCC structures using the software. Special focus was given on the analytical model of the structure. The second day of the workshop focused on the analysis of the steel structures along with the physical model of the structure. The two day session on STAAD.Pro ended with an interactive question answer session in which all the queries of the students were cleared.

22nd and 23rd October 2020 (Thursday & Friday)

Revit Architecture software was covered on these two days by Mr. Nitesh Saklani of CADD Center, Dehradun. Autodesk Revit is building information modeling software for architects, landscape architects, structural engineers, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers, designers and contractors. In the third day of the workshop, training was given on the fundamentals of the software along with the partial modeling of a residential building. Complete modeling of the building with other natural components such as trees was done in the fourth day. The two day session on Revit Architecture concluded with an interactive question answer session in which all the queries of the students were cleared.

24th October 2020 (Saturday)

On the final day of the workshop Mr. Anuj Narula, Founder of Teckkonnect, gave training on the highway designing software called MX Road. In this session, training was given on the fundamentals of the software along with the highway designing including horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, design of transition curves, etc. The session concluded with the question answer session clearing the doubts of the students.

The Workshop concluded with Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Awadhesh Chandramauli, Head of the Department. This five-day workshop provided the students with a very useful platform to gain information and have an insight into different civil engineering software. During the five-day workshop, the students generated a wealth of information and experience. The students were able to get knowledge of the software and their usage, they worked on them and learnt their application in the real world.
