A Workshop on “Prescription Reading, its Error and Field Study” was organized by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 9th February, 2019. Mr. Jaipal Singh Rana, Chief Pharmacist – FRI was the Guest Speaker. More than 200 students participated in the Workshop. Dr. Vandana Joshi, Head – IQAC, Uttaranchal University and Dr. Anuj Mittal Director-UIPS inaugurated the event.
Workshop was conducted in two sessions; in the First Session the senior students were allowed to attend a Presentation Lecture followed by Group Discussion while in the Second Session the Guest Speaker Mr. Jaipal Singh Rana spoke about prescription, its parts and the related errors. He also mentioned that medication errors are common in general practice and in hospitals. The errors, prescription error and prescribing faults due to erroneous medical decisions can result in death of patients. Errors can be in the form of adverse drug reaction or medication errors. Mr. Rana focused on patient safety and discussed medication errors and their impact. He described the approaches to accurate prescribing and their role in keeping patients safe.
Dispensing errors include inconsistencies or deviations from the prescription order, such as dispensing the incorrect drug, dose, dosage form, wrong quantity and incorrect or inadequate labelling. Confusing or inadequate directions for use, incorrect or inappropriate preparation, packaging, or storage of medication prior to dispensing are considered to be errors. Dispensing errors committed by individuals can often result in serious complications.
He further said that dispensing errors can be minimized by ensuring correct entry of the prescription. Pharmacist should ensure that the prescription is correct and complete and thoroughly check all the details.

The Workshop was organized by Pharmaceutics Club, Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences under the guidance of Mr. Tarun Parashar.
Dr. Anuj Mittal, Director-UIPS appreciated the work done by students & faculty and marked that the goal of every pharmacist is to minimize dispensing errors. The Workshop ended with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Anuj Mittal.
