Law College Dehradun organizes a Workshop on ‘Career Awareness’

Law College Dehradun organized a Workshop on the topic “Career Awareness – Judiciary and Corporate” on 9th February, 2019. Mr. Bharat Chugh, Partner Designate, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, New Delhi was the Keynote Speaker of the day. Principal & Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna felicitated the guest and presented a memento. Following this he gave a brief account of the guest of the day and in his address and stated that Mr. Bharat Chugh, being a partner of Luthra and Luthra Law Offices, advises and represents clients on a wide range of issues relating to White-Collar Crimes, Commercial Disputes/Litigation, Arbitration, Anti-Corruption Laws, Private International Law, Extradition, Corporate disputes, Technology-Cyber Law, Big Data, Privacy Law, Land Acquisition, Public Procurement, Real Estate, Family Law, Matters involving Constitutional Law Issues, and other cases of trans-border implications.

Mr. Bharat Chugh began the session in a vibrant way discussing his personal experience through which he spell bounded the audience for the entire session. He shared his fear in competing the school students when he was taking distant education and shared his exposure to law at the age of ten and financial hardships that turned out to be the biggest advantage. Those experiences were a boon in disguise and made him what he is today. Following this he threw light on the different aspects of the cases dealt by a judge, involving society, community and future of an accused. It creates a room for great opportunity and responsibility accompanied with an exalted work to be performed by a Judge. He also laid emphasis on the issue of amending laws and solving problems which could be probably made by a Judge. Besides this, he also specified that the Civil Judge and the Judicial Magistrate are the most powerful authorities in the judicial hierarchy. To create the sense of understanding relating to Mediation, the speaker exemplified it through real incidence and some instances. An Interactive Session was held wherein the students posed questions with enthusiasm and the speaker responded with great joy and appreciation to the questions raised and answered to the point. The participants raised a question on the seating set-up of a judge at an elevated podium/dais arrived at the most relevant and important mantra of Judgeship that was “Rise Above Yourself”. When a person is a judge, he is required to be just and should be secular and not devoted to one religion. He also gave a vivid explanation on the three stages of Judiciary.

In his concluding remarks he suggested to read bare acts thoroughly and think like a Judge and be well acquainted with the provision, textbooks and leading cases and their judgment. The Workshop served the objective of making the students acquainted with the practicality of judiciary and the skills required to excel as a Corporate Lawyer.
