Faculty development refers to a range of activities that are perceived to help academicians in improving their professional skills that are vital for carrying out their teaching, research or administrative activities in education.Keeping up this view, a 14-day Faculty Development Program entitled ‘Data Science Using Python’ was organized by the Department of Computer Applications (UIM) from 2nd April, 2019 to 15th April, 2019.
The FDP aimed to provide opportunities to faculty members to enrich their teaching skill and research in the field of data science and machine learning. The FDP was attended by 30 participants, faculty members of Uttaranchal University and from other colleges also.
The program was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi, Director-UIM Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri and HOD (IT) – Dr. Sonal Sharma. Mr. Kuldeep, Technical Trainer, from ENSINO Research and Development (Private) Limited was the Resource Person. Apart from the faculty members of UIM, participants from various Universities and Colleges participated in the event.
Mr. Abhishek Pathak was the Master of Ceremony. At the outset, he invited Dr. Pradeep Suri to felicitate Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi. Thereafter, Dr. Sonal Sharma felicitated Mr. Kuldeep. The program commenced with the lighting of the auspicious lamp followed by the recital of University Kulgeet.
In his address, Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi welcomed all the participants and emphasized upon the need of such programmes for the over-all growth of faculty members. He further stated that ‘Data Science’ and ‘Machine Learning’ are the present day world’s buzz words wherein technology is changing at a rapid pace. ‘Python’ is open source used by the MNCs and even NASA is using it. He continued to focus on the need to update with the changes in technology and its importance. Later he discussed the needs of latest programming languages such as Python, R-programming etc. and expressed the importance of conducting a training program on the subject.
Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri addressed the audience regarding the significance of such FDPs. He further informed that it is an opportunity for all of us to learn and use this new technology. He stressed that as it is the utmost requirement of the Industry nowadays hence it will substantially enhance the employability of our students. He opined that to excel in our careers, we need to explore this avenue. Prof. Suri concluded his address by proposing a Vote of Thanks towards one and all present.
