The NSS Wing of the Uttaranchal University observed “Swachhata Pakhwada” as per the schedule announced by the University Grant Commission from January 16 to 31, 2020 with an aim to keep the university campus clean and free from any garbage and other waste materials.
Under this campaign, the NSS Members of Uttaranchal Institute of Management motivated the faculty members, the staff members and the students to keep the University clean by picking up plastic and other materials and disposing of it in a proper manner. Mr. Rakesh Semwal, NSS Coordinator – UIM, along with Mr.V.K.Tangri and Mr. Praveen Saini conducted the event on 24th January 2020.
Before the campaign began, Shri Jitender Joshi, Hon’ble Chancellor, appreciated the efforts of the entire team and Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, pointed out that such a campaign must be held consistently to make the environment free of plastic and other waste materials.
Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, Director – UIM, emphasized upon clean environment that is free from pollution. He told that we all need to keep our environment clean since our environment is our common responsibility. Massive cleanliness drive was initiated by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2014. Earlier defecation in open was a very common feature, especially in villages, that also led to crimes. This wrong practice has been curtailed up to 90% and a large number of new toilets have been constructed by the Government. Further, he said that all of us should take proper care of our residence and office and the nearby areas.
The NSS Team along with students took a round of the entire University and accumulated garbage including wrappers, empty bottles, and the like. The students wore masks and hand gloves so that they could safely pick up waste materials and consigned it to dustbins they carried along for the purpose. Dr. Anshul Sharma (HOD, Management) and Dr. Sonal Sharma (HOD, IT) graced the occasion by their presence.
