Uttaranchal College of Journalism & Mass Communication organizes a Faculty Development Programme on ‘Media Laws in Media Industry’

A Faculty Development Program on ‘Media Laws in Media Industry’ was organized by Uttaranchal College of Journalism & Mass from 3rd June 2019 to 19 June 2019.

The program was inaugurated on 3rd June by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi of Uttaranchal University.The program was attended by Dr. Mukesh Bora, Head – Uttaranchal College of Journalism & Mass Communication, with the faculty members of UCJMC and other colleges under Uttaranchal University.

Dr. Poonam Rawat (HOD, Law College Dehradun) along with two more Faculty Members of Law College Dehradun, namely, Dr. Lakshmi Priya Vinjamuri and Mr. Ujjawal Kumar were invited as the Resource Person for the FDP Programme.

Before starting the session Dr. Mukesh Bora felicitated Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi. Thereafter all the dignitaries were invited to light the auspicious lamp followed by the recital of the University Kulgeet.

In his address, Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi welcomed all the participants and said problem-based media law learning offers a vivid insight into how a prickly legal situation might arise, and helps you navigate a course of action after assessing the legal risks. He shared his opinion that robust and truthful journalism can still be produced within the bounds of the law and one can learn that all laws can be improved and thus one should engage in the continuous process of media law reform. Media Laws facilitates a scholar to learn about the reform process, access historical reform recommendations in research and provides an opportunity to recommend reforms in areas of researcher’s interest.

Dr. Mukesh Bora addressed the audience emphasizing the significance of such FDPs. He said that Media Law presents a wonderful opportunity to explore the many competing rights and interests in society as the rights to free expression, information and a free media compete with other important rights including reputation, a fair trial, privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property and national security, along with the right to be free from discrimination in all its forms.

He concluded his address by proposing a Vote of Thanks.
