An Industrial Visit was organized by Department of Biotechnology and Chemistry, Uttaranchal College of Applied & Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University on February 25, 2019 for B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. students of Biotechnology and Chemistry. The visit was conceptualized and conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh, Principal – SALS & Dean-Research & Studies, Uttaranchal University. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Nishesh Sharma (Head – Department of Biotechnology), Dr. Vivekanand Bahuguna (Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology) and Dr. Archana (Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology). Students visited TaqGene Training and Research Institute (TGTRI), Dehradun to get an exposure about the organization of research laboratory and avail an exposure about recent advancements in techniques utilized in the field of Recombinant DNA Technology, Chromatography, Molecular Biology and Spectroscopy.
A PowerPoint Presentation was delivered by Dr. Sachin Chauhan, Director (Admin) wherein he briefed about the different aspects of organization, functioning of research & development laboratory and the principles & applications of various bio-analytical instruments. The presentation was followed by the demonstration and hands-on-training of bio-analytical instruments such as real time PCR, RT PCR, Gel electrophoresis, gel-Doc system, Inverted microscope and a Technical Session on Spectroscopic Analysis. Students also got an exposure about mushroom cultivation as TaqGene Institute is conducting active research related to cultivation of medicinal mushroom. Technical Sessions were followed by an Interactive Session during which students raised their queries related to prevailing career opportunities in the field of Applied Sciences. The visit proved to be a learning experience for students not only on technical front but also creating awareness about opportunities in research and how to target them.
Students expressed their gratitude towards Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh for providing them such opportunities beyond academics to enhance their knowledge and technical skills.
