Togetherness and harmony, Indian festivals are all about these. All the fun and frolic go hand in hand with delicious food, new clothes, and small get-together. The spring season is the season of happiness for all and this calls for Basant Panchami celebrations. It is also known and celebrated as Saraswati Pooja in the Eastern parts of India. Panchami marks the beginning of Basant or spring according to the Hindu calendar. As per the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on the fifth day of Magha Maas. As per Hindu beliefs, Maa Saraswati the deity of learning, music, and art was born on this day, and thus to achieve wisdom and art from her people celebrate Basant Panchami as Saraswati Pooja. This day is very auspicious; people start new work, get married or start anything new on this day.
Being an Educational University, The vice-chancellor of Uttaranchal University Prof. (Dr.) Dharam Buddhi, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr. ) Rajesh Bahuguna, Dean Academics Affairs Prof. (Dr.) Amit Srivastava , Dean UIT Prof. (Dr.) S.D Pandey along with the faculty members offered prayers to the goddess of Knowledge and wisdom Maa Saraswati to invoke her blessings on this auspicious occasion. Later, Prasadam (blessed food) was also distributed to all.
As part of the activity for the day, the significance of Basant Panchami was explained to everyone. Its association with the yellow colour, the blooming of mustard flowers, and the arrival of spring were also elaborated.
