School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University, organizes orientation programme on foreign languages

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, widely regarded as the greatest and most influential writer in the German language, once famously remarked, “He who knows no foreign languages knows nothing of his own.”  With this spirit, the School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University, which has long been endeavoring to bring a paradigm shift in the teaching and learning of humanities in the country organized an orientation program for all the students of the constituent schools of the University with the dual purpose to make the students aware of the fast-growing need of learning foreign languages in the current global scenario and launch certificate courses in French, German, and Spanish.

Prof (Dr) Shravan Kumar, Dean SLA, while sharing his vision with around 150 participating students present during his opening address in this orientation program organized on Monday, March 14, 2022, talked about providing the students’ several opportunities for technical and soft skills training, national and international level certifications in English and other foreign languages, and promoting sports & co-curricular activities among the students along with continuing to empower the students with knowledge in their respective chosen area of studies. The eminent speaker on this occasion Mr Yogendra Negi spoke at length about the prospects of building a lucrative career in various multinational organizations after learning these foreign languages. Mr Himanshu Maindola and Ms Divya Dubey threw light on the significance of learning German and French respectively and the various career options that become available to the students once they acquire proficiency in these European foreign languages.

Assistant Professors Ashutosh Sharma and Anamika Thapa coordinated with the students and ensured the smooth conduct of the entire event. Associate Professor and Head of Department Dr Reeta Rautela proposed the vote of thanks to the respected guests, and to the Dean of the school for such a highly informative programme. The entire event that was efficiently anchored by Assistant Professor Ankur Sharma concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
