School of Liberal Arts observes “World Autism Awareness Day”

Don’t think that there’s a different, better child ‘hiding’ behind the autism.

This is your child. Love the child in front of you. Encourage his strengths, celebrate his quirks, and improve his weaknesses, the way you would with any child.”

-Claire Scovell LaZebnik, Author of “Growing Up on the Spectrum”

The World Health Organization defines Autism as: “Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) which is a diverse group of conditions. They are characterized by some degree of difficulty with social interaction and communication. People with autism often have co-occurring conditions, including epilepsy, depression, and anxiety, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as well as challenging behaviours such as difficulty sleeping and self-injury.” The World Autism Awareness Day was adopted on 18th December 2007 and is internationally recognized on 2nd April annually.

To mark World Autism Awareness Day School of Liberal Arts organized a Poster Making Competition on the 20th of March, 2021 for the students of various departments. The global pandemic has incessantly raised more troubles for the individual suffering from autism. The official website of The United Nations marks out, “Persons with autism have long faced many of these inequalities, which have only been further exacerbated by the pandemic.”

The participants took a keen interest in portraying their art skills and depicted the theme in a subtle way. The colourful paintings laid out the aspects of several autistic disorders, treatments, behaviours, patterns, diagnosis and an overall picture of the neurodevelopmental disorder of autism.
