School of Liberal Arts Celebrates Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti

Mahatma Gandhi and Shastri Ji believed in the power of truth, peace and non-violence. Mahatma Gandhi, in his philosophy of truth known as Satyagraha adopted these beliefs in his leadership that helped in achieving India’s Independence. Hence, to give a tribute to these leaders of our nation, the School of Liberal Arts of Uttaranchal University organized a virtual event to commemorate the birth anniversary of the jewels of our nation, the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, and the ‘Man of peace’, Lal Bahadur Shastri, on the 2nd of October.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by Nandini Agarwal (B.A. English Honors, 1st year) who gave an insight to the importance of the day and also presented her words that revered the two gems of India. The entire program was hosted by Anjali Negi and Samridhdi Kandpal, both from B.A. English Honors, 2nd year.

The Literary Club organized four events for the students to participate and portray their writing skills by weaving the words for Mahatama Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. The activities were to pay a tribute to them and included speeches, poetries, slogans and facts. All these activities highlighted the paths that these two leaders paved for their nation and the citizens. The participants for the same included Abhilasha, Ali, Devanshi, Khushi, Khushboo and Tanika. All the performances truly made the virtual audience remember Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. They rendered aid to enlighten the attendees more about these leaders and path makers of our nation.

An interesting event was also organized by the Cultural Club of the School of Liberal Arts. The participants were asked to prepare and present their art and craft works as a tribute to Gandhiji and Shastri Ji. The participants from the Cultural Club included Abhilasha, Aarzu, Surbhi, Neha, Tanika, Pragati and Ayesha Thapa. The art pieces were a treat to the eyes. The creativity and the talent united and brought up such alluring pieces that were praised by everyone present there.

Then there was a short vote of the thanks from the activity coordinator of the SLA, Ms. Reeta Rautela who praised the efforts, presence and the wholesome execution of the entire event. Further, a Vote of Thanks was delivered forth by Ashi Singh on the behalf of the Organizing Committee. Thereafter, the whole event was concluded gracefully by Rishika Khanna (B.A. English Honors, 1st year), who portrayed the words gratitude for the almighty, the participants, Clubs of SLA and everyone else for their benign presence throughout the event.

All the virtual attendees relished the entire event thoroughly. The event was successful enough to evoke a sense of pride, respect, and gratitude towards all the magnificent leaders of India, their contribution, and their virtues that shall remain perpetual till the end and shall grace every coming generation to stand up and prove themselves as the incredible Indians.
