School of Agriculture (SOA) organized an educational trip for first year students of UG and PG Degree Programme under Induction Programme. Mr Sunil Prakash, Er Raja Joshi, Dr Neha Saini, Dr Mohsin Ikram and Dr Rachna Juyal accompanied the students. Students went to Forest Pathology Museum, Timber Museum, Silviculture Museum, Non-Wood Forest Products Museum and Central Nursery of FRI. Ms Ambika Budakoti a Research Scholar at FRI briefed the students about various medicinal and ornamental plants. In Timber Museum students notified different types of timber products like furniture, cart, boxes and decorative items. Students observed different forest types like tropical, sub-tropical and alpine through model in Silviculture Lab. Mr Sunil Prakash illustrated varied plantation of these forest types. Students learnt rearing of silk worms, lac culture and extraction of kattha, extraction of medicine from non-woods, different types of seeds used in medicines, red sandalwood, different types of dyes, raisins, gums and many more. Later students went to Central Nursery of FRI and examined the plants. They observed the techniques followed in nursery and asked their queries to caretaker. Students were pretty amazed at all specimens kept and preserved in the museums. Dr Mohsin Ikram cleared the queries of students aptly. The FRI visit was really beneficial for all the students of UG and PG Degree Programme of Agriculture.
