School of Agriculture observes “World No Tobacco Day”

School of Agriculture observed “World No Tobacco Day” on 31st May 2021. This year’s theme is “Commit to Quit”. 

This yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations. As per the directives of Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pathak, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, the Cultural Committee of SOA organized an online program to disseminate awareness of dangers of tobacco among the students on MS Team online portal. 

In this program, Ms. Rachna Juyal (Coordinator, Cultural Committee, SOA) hosted the event and welcomed the attendees including students and Faculty Members of School of Agriculture. Mr. Avadh Bihari Pal (Assistant Professor-SOA) explained about the adverse effects of consuming tobacco in any form. He described the various diseases, e.g., cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes and chronic bronchitis caused by tobacco products. He further explained that sports, physical activities, yoga and meditation can help to change the mind state and one can easily avoid tobacco consumption. The program continued with the undertaking of the pledge by all attendees as suggested by University Grant Commission (UGC), New Delhi. Everyone pledged their commitment for not consuming any tobacco products in his/her life. They also promised that they will also endeavour to make their family members aware of the same. The Dean and the HOD of SOA also participated in the event.
