School of Agriculture organized a Plantation Drive and a Guest Lecture to celebrate Earth Day on 22nd April 2021. Earth Day is observed every year on April 22. Earth Day is dedicated to the bountiful Mother Nature and with each passing year, as the world battles a climate crisis, Earth Day is gaining significance. In 1990, Earth Day became an environmental movement, working with more than 75,000 partners in over 192 countries to drive positive action for our planet. This year the celebration is bit different due to the influence of pandemic COVID-19, but the zeal was still high. The theme of Earth Day Celebration was ‘Restore our Earth’. At 11:00 am sharp the first event ‘Plantation of Aromatic & Medicinal Plants in Navgraha Vatika’ hosted by Dr. Neha Saini, Assistant Professor- SOA, was initiated by Hon’ble Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Shri. Jitender Joshi . Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pathak, Vice Chancellor, Uttaranchal University; Mr. Iqbal Singh Sawhney, Sr. Manager – Corporate Resource Center; Mr. K.B. Pokhriyal, COE and Chief Warden (Hostel) graced the event by their presence. The effort was praised and appreciated by Hon’ble Chancellor Uttaranchal University who also advised everyone to organize such social and fruitful events in future.
To make this day more meaningful for the students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture SOA organized a Guest Lecture by Dr. B.K. Chaudhary, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Centre for Sustainable Agriculture Research, Education & Extension on ‘Importance of Organic Farming’ at 3:10 pm. Dr. M.P. Singh Dean-SOA welcomed the invited guest and participants in the session. Thereafter, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, delivered his address and highlighted the significance of such sessions to spread awareness among everyone. Dr. B.K. Chaudhary covered all aspects related to organic farming. He presented life on earth before and after of human civilization. Towards the end students and faculty members raised their queries which were aptly answered. The celebrations concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, HOD-SOA.
