NSS Wing of Uttaranchal University organizes a Rally to create awareness regarding ‘Self Medication’

To create awareness on ‘Self Medication’ among public, a rally was conducted by National Service Scheme (NSS) Wing, Uttaranchal University. The rally was conducted & organized on 5th September, 2018 under the guidance of Dr. V.K. Srivastava, coordinator-NSS, Uttaranchal University and Mr. Ashish Dimri, Coordinator-NSS, UIPS.

The rally started from the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and after covering the entire campus of Uttaranchal University it headed towards the slum area near Nanda Ki Chowki. The students interacted with the people and informed them regarding self medication and told them that medication should always be taken under medical supervision. Incorrect self-diagnosis and delay in seeking medical advice can result in severe adverse reactions. Dangerous drug interactions, incorrect manner of administration, incorrect dosage and incorrect choice of therapy masks severe diseases leading to high risk to health. The students warned the residents and enlisted the medicines that cause harmful effects when taken in higher doses than recommended. They asserted that medicines should not be taken without consulting doctors and informed that the most widely self-medicated substances are over-the-counter drugs used to treat common health issues at home, as well as dietary supplements.

The students were accompanied by Dr. Amit Semwal, Dr. Arvind Negi, Mr. Tarun Parashar and Mr. Akhilesh Kothiyal.
