NSS Unit of Uttaranchal University conducts Community Development Program in Kehri Village, Premnagar, Dehradun

In continuation of “Swachhata Hi Seva-2018 (SHS) observation period from 15th September to 2nd October, 2018 and realizing the vision of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi of clean India”, NSS Unit of School of Agriculture (SOA), Uttaranchal University made an excellent effort to mobilize the village community of Kehri village, Premnagar, Dehradun to built compost pits, where organic matter decomposes to form manure through a community development program.

The program was organized under the supervision of Dr. V.K. Srivastava, NSS Coordinator of Uttaranchal University and Mr. Sunil Prakash, NSS Coordinator of SOA on 29th September, 2018. In this program, the students motivated the villagers to reduce the usage of chemicals like pesticides, fungicides, fertilizer, etc. in their fields that may have issues related to human and cattle health and can pollute environment severely. Instead of these chemicals manures serve as a good alternative which is safe and equally effective to improve crop yields. These manures can be prepared easily by decomposition of house wastes and agricultural residue. The students conveyed their suggestions by slogan chanting, displaying posters, individual counseling and group interaction with farmers in the village.

The Faculty Members of SOA, namely, Dr. Suhal Sardar, Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma and Mr. Jayanti Ballabh were present in the program.

Hon’ble Chancellor of the Uttaranchal University Shri. Jitendra Joshi, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi and Principal-SOA Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Mishra congratulated the NSS Unit of SOA for successfully organizing this awareness program.
