Law College Dehradun had the delectation of organizing a Guest Lecture on ‘Competition Law and Policy’ on 23rd November 2019. Mr. Manas Kumar Chaudhuri, Partner – Khaitan & Co., an anti-trust litigator who advises Indian and overseas clients on Competition Law & Policy and related regulatory issues, was the Keynote Speaker of the day.
Principal &Dean Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Bahuguna, at the outset, felicitated the guest and introduced him to the audience. Mr. Manas Chaudhuri has worked as the first Additional Registrar of the Competition Commission of India and was also associated with the drafting of various Statutory Regulations under the Competition Act during his stay in CCI. Besides serving as a Civil Judge in West Bengal State Judicial Services he is the National Chair of Competition Law Council of the ASSOCHAM and Vice-Chair of the IPBA Competition Law Council (2018-2020).
Mr. Manas Kumar Chaudhuri commenced his lecture with a brief introduction on IPR and a quick background on Competition Law. Co-relating the application of Competition Law with other prevailing laws such as The Contract Act, Indian Penal Code, etc., he elaborated upon the various famous case laws in the field of Competition Law like Google, INOX, Hyundai, to name a few. In addition to this, he elucidated the concept of ‘Abuse of Dominance’ and ‘Combination Regulation’ through various illustrations. The lecture came to a successful end with an open discussion forum wherein various queries of the students were formally addressed by Mr. Chaudhuri.
The event was witnessed by the students and faculty members of Law College Dehradun. The participants cognized the fact that dedicated and thorough research is quintessential while dealing with complex legal matters besides anticipating the opponents’ moves to take precautionary steps.
