Law College Dehradun Inaugurated 6th National Moot Court Competition

Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University inaugurated the 6th National Moot Court Competition (6th NMCC) on 7 May 2022. The occasion was graced by Mr. Justice L. Nageshwar Rao, Hon’ble Judge, Supreme Court of India as the Chief Guest while Hon’ble Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Shri Jitendra Joshi and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dharam Buddhi were the special guests on the occasion. The event began with the usual lamp lighting ceremony, felicitation of the special guests and University Kulgeet.

The event commenced with the address of Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Rajesh Bahuguna, who stated that 48 students from reputed law colleges and universities of the country were participating in the event. 15 Courts were set up for the purpose in which 33 Judges would assess the legal acumen of the students.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dharam Buddhi mentioned that technology, particularly artificial intelligence is permeating the legal profession at a greater pace. He expressed the need for the interlinking legal profession with innovative technological inputs for ensuring better and faster justice.

Hon’ble Justice L. Nageshwar Rao in his speech remarked that the Moot Court Competition is a prelude to the real court experience. “In real court situations you can’t always win but every case imparts some lessons; Preparation, analysis and presentation are the keys to the successful legal profession”, he observed. He further maintained that legal professionals especially lawyers are the vanguard of the constitution. The legal profession should be instrumental in the process of social reforms. Considering the legal profession as one of the most satisfactory ones, he advised the law students to help the people from the lowest strata of society. “Though a number of cases are pending in the courts, still the people have the highest faith in the judiciary”, he observed at length.
