Industrial Visit to Centre for Aromatic Plants (CAP), Selaqui by Department of Chemistry, SALS.

The Department of Chemistry under the aegis of School of Applied and Life Sciences (Uttaranchal University) organized an Educational Visit for the students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry, M.Sc. Chemistry & M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry to ‘Centre for Aromatic Plants (CAP)’ Selaqui, Dehradun on 15th September, 2021.

The experts at the centre were very helpful and they tried their best to explain all the processes in the plant to the students. The students were divided into two batches which were headed by Scientist Dr. S.S. Barthwal and Dr. Mahendra Chauhan respectively. They explained about different varieties of medicinal plants and also informed about their uses and applications. They were informed about the cultivation techniques of different medicinal plants and methods of collection of its various parts. The students also visited the medicinal garden and saw plants like Lemongrass, Mint, Citronella, Palmarosa, Basil, Nagarmotha, Khus, Vach etc. The experts also explained about different processes of extraction by which the aromatic oils are obtained like Hydro-Distillation Unit, Hydro-Steam Distillation Unit, Fractional Distillation and Super Critical Fluid Extraction Unit.

The visit proved to be extremely beneficial for the students and helped them to gather information about cultivation, production, extraction process and storage of aromatic plants. The students extended their gratitude towards the departmernt for facilitating the organization of the visit.

The Educational Visit was organized by Dr. Poonam Negi (HOD, Chemistry) and co-ordinated by Mr. Shivam Pandey under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Ajay Singh, Dean SALS.
