School of Agriculture (SOA) celebrated Uttarakhand’s folk festival Harela on 16 July 2022. The main objective of this program was to motivate the students for developing their knowledge and making an ethical connection with the cultural heritage of Uttarakhand State specifically towards the mythological connection of people with plants, improvement & preparation for new crops, and plantation of trees, Medicinal plants & Ornamental plants and their conversation. Prof (Dr) Mahipal Singh, Dean SOA explained to the students and faculty members of SOA the historical and mythological importance of Harela. He said that the word green ‘hara’, of environment, keeps the importance in our life. Harela is a Hindu festival celebrated in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The festival is celebrated on the first day of Hindi month Shravan. He said that green colour is the colour of happiness and prosperity. He motivated young students of Agriculture for upholding nature, nation, family, and forests and encouraged the students to conserve Mother Nature in every possible way. To take the event ahead the faculty members and students of the School of Agriculture (SOA) planted the saplings of medicinal plants like Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata) and White Kaner (Nerium oleander), and flowering plants like Dieffenbachia and (Carex ciliatomarginata) more and more plant, respectively in the Navgraha Vatika, SOA.
