Eco-Cops “The Home of Eco Warriors” of Uttaranchal University celebrates “Earth Day 2018”

The Environmental Club of Uttaranchal University Eco – Cops “The Home of Eco Warriors” celebrated ‘Earth Day – 2018’ on 23rd April, 2018 by organizing a Poster Presentation Competition and a Power-Point Presentation Competition. ‘Earth Day’ is an annual event celebrated on April 22 throughout the world. Various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

The theme of “Earth Day – 2018” was ‘End Plastic Pollution’. Plastic, commonly used in today’s world, has now emerged as a major environmental hazard. Scientists are seeking a solution to this spreading menace which is wreaking havoc on natural environments, leading to long-term issues for plants, animals and people thus increasing the difficulty level of survival on this earth.

The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi, Registrar Mr. Ajai Singh, Director-UIPS Prof. (Dr.) Deepak Nanda and Principal-SALS Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh. In his address Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi stressed on the need of such activities which aim to create awareness among the students regarding the significance of living in a clean and green earth. A large number of students from the constituent colleges of Uttaranchal University participated in the event. The jury of both the events included Dr. Shriya Goyal, Dr. Amit Semwal, Head – Department of Pharmacy, and Er. Sanjay Kumar, Head – Department of Food Technology.

The students highlighted and explained various environmental issues which are a major concern of today’s world. The students collected factual information using their research and analytical competence and conveyed the same to the audience. The list of varied topics included plastic pollution, oil pollution (through spillage), comparison between polluted and unpolluted earth, pollution, ways of reducing pollution, deforestation , disrupted rainfall patterns, changing climate of the earth, different types of anthropogenic pollutions which are making life difficult on earth, ever increasing population which is the root cause of every problem, to name a few..

The event was an eye opener for all the participants and audience. Everyone realized the importance of keeping an earth-centric view wherein we give prime importance towards making our earth healthy and beautiful for our survival.

The programme was organized by Dr. Bharti Ramola (Coordinator- Eco-Cops), Dr. Poonam Negi (Secretary- Eco-Cops), Mr. Vinod Joshi and Student Coordinators – Mr. Shivam Panday & Mr. Aditya Chahar. The event was anchored by Ms. Pragati Arora and Ms. Priyanshi.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. Ajay Singh (President – Eco-Cops) who expressed his gratitude towards all the Eco-Cops for their enthusiastic participation in the event.
