Department of Mechanical Engineering-Uttaranchal Institute of Technology Conducted Essay Writing Competition in observance of ‘International Literacy Day’

Department of Mechanical Engineering, UIT, Uttaranchal University observed ‘International Literacy Day’ on 8th September 2021. The International Literacy Day was declared by UNESCO on 26th October, 1966 at the 14th session of UNESCO’s General Conference.

On this occasion an ESSAY writing competition was organised by Mechanical Engineering Department based on the theme of “Linguistics” having Topic: Effect of Language on Culture with the approval and blessings of Dean-UIT, Prof. (Dr). S.D Pandey.

The event was inaugurated at Mechanical Engineering Department, UIT and started with the welcome speech from the event coordinator Mr. Vivek John (Assistant Professor) ME-UIT. 

Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Joshi, HOD-ME addressed the student participants with his encouraging words for organising such events and shared his views on the importance of education. He said literacy can contribute in building a solid foundation for a human-cantered recovery. It specially focused on role of literacy and digital skills needed by non-literate youth and adults. Dr. Shushant Singh, Astt. Professor, ME also emphasized the role of technology-enabled literacy should be accessible to everyone and meaningful in order to not leave anyone behind. 

On this occasion the senior faculty members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Mr. Avnish Kumar, Astt. Professor, ME was present to grace the event. The coordinators of the event were Mr. Vivek John (Assistant Professor) ME-UIT and Mr. Saurabh Aggarwal (Assistant Professor) ME-UIT. The programme concluded with the formal vote of thanks given by event coordinator Mr. Saurabh Aggarwal (Assistant Professor) ME-UIT.
