Department of Communication, SLA organized an Industrial Visit to ‘Soham Heritage and Cultural Centre’ on 19th October, 2019. The trip was organized for the students of BAJMC First Year and Second Year under the guidance of Ms. Smriti Uniyal and Mr. Ved Prakash. The main purpose of the trip was to show the vast and unexplored culture of the Himalyan Region.

The Cultural Centre is managed by Mr. Sameer Shukla and Mrs Kavita Shukla. The museum preserves the culture of the Himalyan region, especially Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The museum was divided into 4 sections, to mention specifically, the section exhibiting wall embossed scriptures, the section exhibiting paintings, the section exhibiting tools & artefacts used by the ancient human for survival and the section exhibiting cloth & handicrafts made from the raws found in the valleys of Uttarakhand. The exhibits also included photo gallery with pictures from treks from all over the Uttarakhand, Laddakh and H.P. Students saw different types of art forms. The Centre illustrated the culture of Uttarakhand Himalayan Fairs Festivals (pre 1947) through Black and White Photographs Section of Himalayas and also Garhwali Dance.

The museum gives special privilege to girl child, especially those who didn’t get education. They provide education to such girls and till date more than 450 girls have been educated. Moreover, the artefacts that were exhibited were made up of recyclable materials like scraps. The Centre also proved to be a vast resource of knowledge and information on spirituality and Vedas of Hinduism.

The Painting Section had hundreds of paintings with many of them dedicated to Lord Shiva. Some of them focused on the cultures and traditions of Uttarakhand and summarization of different types of festivals celebrated in Uttarakhand. The museum also had a Souvenir Shop which enabled the visitors to buy things which were created manually by the artists. The best part of the museum was that everything was made manually.

The students involved with enthusiasm and raised their questions about different art forms. Mr. Sameer told about his life and the journey behind the establishment of the museum 22 years back.

The visit concluded with a visit to Dhanolti Eco Park where the students enjoyed the beauty of nature and also did some landscape photography. Students thoroughly enjoyed the educational trip.
