Department of Agriculture & Forestry organizes a Workshop on ‘Mushroom Cultivation: Beginners’ Guide’

Department of Agriculture & Forestry, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, organized a two-day Workshop on ‘Mushroom Cultivation: Beginners’ Guide’ on 9th and10th September, 2016.

Dr. Gopal Singh, Professor from SVPUA & T, Modipuram, Meerut, started his first day’s lecture by quoting, “Mushrooms have been growing wild since prehistoric times. Their therapeutic value has been acknowledged by indigenous cultures for thousands of years. In the past few decades, mushrooms have become more popular for their therapeutic qualities in the west as a result of an expanding body of scientific research supporting their numerous health benefits.”

Dr. Abhishek Bahuguna, Asst. Professor, UCBMSH, Dehradun stated that research is also showing us that mushrooms not only contribute to promoting healthier lifestyles but also support in finding solutions to the challenges we face in the current environmental and economic climate. He explored some of the ideas, and ways to work with mushrooms to develop and implement practical solutions in our daily urban settings. In the second day’s lecture he emphasized on various techniques for growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms using so called waste materials that we have access to in our immediate environment. Students were benefitted by this workshop and got their doubts clarified.
