The discipline of Civil Engineering has a critical role in the public sector from local government to national government as well as in the private sector from individual home owners to international companies. Civil Engineering professionals have wider career opportunities and in the developing world the demand of qualified civil engineers is increasing.

In addition to the B Tech programme, the Department also offers an M Tech programme in Environmental Engineering and Construction Technology and Management. Environmental Engineering encompasses application of scientific and engineering principles to create solutions that will protect and also improve the health of living organisms and improve the quality of the environment. Environmental Engineers have immense possibilities of employment both in industry as well as in government sector and research organizations.
Construction Technology and Management programme is a fusion of engineering and management. The course employment areas include military engineering services, independent consultancy services, road projects, academic institutes, real estate departments, building services engineer, sustainability consultant, facilities manager, site engineer, railways projects to mention a few.
