Department of Mechanical Engineering: An Overview
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is considered as the core of Engineering setup and the heart of the University. The strength of the Department is its highly qualified and experienced faculty they aim at excelling both in teaching and research and a devoted to creating academically conducive environment to nurture the analytical and creative ability of the students and evolving an Engineering application based curriculum.
A Mechanical Engineer designs, develops, operates and maintains systems required for the industry whether in a Power Plant, Space & Nuclear establishment, Steel Plant, Military establishments or Automobile Industry.
The academic curriculum of the program is fully updated and designed according to the present day need of the industry. The department is continuously engaged to bring live projects from the industry on design, production, maintenance and automation so that student can have better exposure of solving the problems during these processes by using their technical know-how gained during their study program.
In addition to B.Tech. Programme, the Department also offers M.Tech. programme in Thermal Engineering and Energy Management & Sustainability emphasizing upon application of fundamental principles of Thermal Engineering for various applications, which include Steam Power Plants, Gas Turbine Power Plants, Petroleum Refineries, Solar Appliances, Cooling of Electronic Equipment and Devices, Automobiles, I. C. Engines, Refrigeration Plants, Air-Conditioning Systems, Cold Storage Units, Propulsion Systems to name a few.
Thermal Engineering students are in great demand by many research establishments (like DRDO, NAL, BARC, ISRO, etc.), companies and industries (like GE, BHEL, NTPC, KOEL, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra, Tata Motors, L&T, Reliance, etc.). Some of the students, out of their passion for teaching-cum-research may even go for their Doctorate Degree in a specialized area.
